Love to see @_panthalassa out of stealth. craziest thing about this to me is that @garthsc and co literally invented a new shape to harness energy from the ocean - an insight on the level the invention of the mechanical wing. This is me inside of one of the nodes.

Wet solar! Such an honor to have you on the cap table @ramez
I'm delighted to be a small part of this. The oceans are an incredible untapped resource for energy that can power AI. The most intense wave energy is thousands of miles from human settlements, but can power floating data centers at incredibly low cost and high availability. I'm stoked for the future with @_panthalassa , @garthsc , and team.

Real pleasure to speak with you, @tim! Also how do you have this handle??😂
Been itching to write this one for months… Peter Thiel is leading a $140m funding for @_panthalassa - a startup putting AI chips out to sea in giant 85m-tall floating data centres

Thanks for having me on, great to see you @johncoogan @jordihays @tbpn. Oceans to tokens is coming!
"If you want tons of embarrassingly parallel inference running all the same models, running future models that get bigger or smaller, we think we're going to be perfect for lots of that." Panthalassa's @garthsc, who just announced a $140M B round led by Peter Thiel to build wave-powered data centers in the ocean, explains the concept in detail: "The typical node will be on the order of 500 kW. One rack to multiple racks depending on density." "They can talk to each other sideways — we'll have radio — and they'll be talking to satellites." "So we're building this grid. And it's not for synchronous training. This is not fiber between everything." "If you want tons of embarrassingly parallel inference running all the same models, running future models that get bigger or smaller, we think we're going to be perfect for lots of that." "The way that we see this going is, once the energy starts to crash through what's available in the grid, it all just becomes about who can actually build in an elastic fashion to make 10 GW, 100 GW." "100 GW per year is the kind of thing we're getting asked to do, so that's the framework that we want to build. Just pure manufacturing to get energy capacity out there."

Today we're announcing @_panthalassa’s $140M Series B, led by Peter Thiel, with participation from John Doerr and many other incredible investors. The mission: unlock the ocean as another planetary-scale energy resource for humanity. First stop: compute.

And we have amazing partners. The investors in this round are some of them: visionaries willing to bet on technology that can fundamentally change how basic goods like energy and intelligence are delivered. We couldn't be more proud to have their support.

Great to spend time with David @Pogue and @CBSSunday
The renewable energy company Panthalassa says it has a solution to the proliferation of AI data centers, which consume massive amounts of energy and are the cause of increased carbon pollution: sea-based data centers, powered by wave energy. David @Pogue examines what Panthalassa's alternative to land-based data centers may mean. cbsn.ws/4tWOCGy

Loved chatting with @ashleevance about @_panthalassa's ocean energy platform and clean AI compute at sea
.@_panthalassa has been operating mostly in secret for 10 years. And now it's here with a very wild, very real plan to power data centers in the ocean. epic episode with @garthsc right here - corememory.com/p/ocean-ai-da…
