Here is how #platforms die: first, they are good to their users; then they abuse their users to make things better for their business customers; finally, they abuse those business customers to claw back all the value for themselves. Then, they die. 1/

The OGL 1.2 (Draft) is still de-authorizing the OGL 1.0a and gives no mechanism for anyone who used other people's OGC under the license to keep their work in print.
WotC is lying to you.
The single most destructive act by Hasbro in the OGL controversy has been their legally dubious assertion that they can invent a right to "de-authorize" the license not enumerated in the license.
They do not appear to be backing down on this.

When OGL change is so big, even @hackaday has good commentary.

Quote from a friend: "D&D does not survive on its merits alone".
The D&D community is the force that drives the world's largest TTRPG. It's not profitable because it makes the best TTRPG game. It's profitable because it has the best community support for its game.

It becomes even more important for our actions to represent our values. While we wait to see what the future holds, we are moving forward with clear-eyed work on a new Core Fantasy tabletop ruleset: available, open, and subscription-free -Code Name: Project Black Flag.
For people who care about the #OGL I have a great quote from a friend.
"D&D does not survive on the merits of the WotC's products alone.
Both as a hobby and as a business."

My three year old nephew Jax is obsessed with Among Us so he got a red Among Us plushie for Christmas. The next day Bear chewed it up while no one was looking. When Jax found it he freaked out and yelled "why, why would he do this?" I told him red was sus. It didn't help.
I am so excited by this whole list.
I hope @internetarchive has some of these ready to go on January first. Especially the Sherlock Holmes works.
40 years ago, giant entertainment companies embarked on a slow-moving act of arson. The fuel for this arson was #copyright #TermExtension (making copyrights last longer), including *retrospective* copyright term extensions that took works out of the #PublicDomain. 1/

Is a really odd way of saying "trying to break laws until it bites you in the butt".
What did you miss indeed?
TY @j_mcelroy for my best laugh of the day.

This thread is about Twitter, but @SaffronOlive, this would cover into a great write-up about the state of MTG and all of the Magic30 shenanigans.
While I'm happy this is happening, its very existence undermines medicine itself.
We have people questioning the utility of vaccines. And like, "Medicine can't even get pulse oximeters correctly calibrated, how can we trust them to get a vaccine right?"
