Oh dear … here’s Precious Andy explaining in 2016 that the free movement of people has destroyed jobs in the UK… He’ll say anything for power. But you must know that by now. It’s just a race to the bottom hey Andy?

FT comments never miss. I don’t think I’ve read such a rational analysis of the situation we’re in for a long time.
I've been in France since 2002 and have never seen the streets so violent nor the politics so extreme. From the sacking of the supermarket on my street to the prospect of Présidente Le Pen, here's me @FT including thoughts from 2 French Nobel laureates as.ft.com/r/addcad57-0f9d-4e…

A man jailed for immigration deception after a judge condemned his “deliberate, extended manipulation” of the system is now the BBC’s principal data scientist for Responsible AI, helping shape how the corporation uses AI and how news is represented through it. Hicham Yezza (picture here with Moazzam Begg, the former Guantánamo Bay detainee) was sentenced to nine months in prison in 2009 after falsely claiming he had permission to remain in Britain. He had overstayed his visa by more than five years. He later successfully appealed against deportation and is now a British citizen. Before joining the BBC, Yezza also described Hamas rocket attacks as “resistance”, accused Israel of ethnic cleansing and called it an apartheid regime built on stolen land. He founded the pro-Palestinian Ceasefire magazine and later joined BBC Monitoring in 2021, where The Telegraph says he produced reports concerning Gaza. His current BBC role involves guiding responsible AI policy and developing benchmarks for how AI assistants represent public-service news. There is an extraordinary contrast here. When the Asserson Report used AI alongside data scientists and other researchers to analyse millions of words of BBC Israel-Hamas coverage, the corporation responded: “We have serious questions about the methodology of this report, particularly its heavy reliance on AI to analyse impartiality.” Yet the BBC now entrusts a senior role in determining how AI should approach and represent news to someone who had publicly expressed such strongly anti-Israel views before joining it. The BBC says Yezza’s controversial statements and immigration case pre-date his employment, that he has not breached its social-media rules while working there, and that he stopped working for Ceasefire when he joined. So that's all OK then! An extraordinary background — and an extraordinary contrast in the BBC’s attitude towards AI scrutiny of news.

GB Energy, the useless state-owned company established by Labour, has so far spent £14.2m on running costs — and £5.8m on investments. Running costs included the almost £400,000/year paid to its ineffective CEO and six executives on more than £100,000 each. What any of them has done to earn these sums is one of life’s mysteries. Perhaps it’s a blessing it’s invested so little. The £5.8m it has earmarked is for a proposed floating wind farm off the north coast of Scotland — a sure-fire loss-maker if ever there was one.

Ask yourself why? A government that forces ingredients into your bread, or ID for a social media account, but that also can never deceive whether or not to drill new oil fields or build a third runway or cut welfare. But they CAN do this and in a RUSH. Why?
🚨NEW: It's been revealed Andy Burnham is rushing through laws to scrap photo ID checks in polling stations [@Telegraph]

How long until it turns out we are all inadvertently subsiding our own downfall through some charity or government export scheme?
Twenty-five flimsy migrant boats about to be shipped in Germany to be used in Channel crossings have been impounded at a UK airport. It's the first time boats have been shipped by air, as far as authorities are aware. @JasonFarrellSky reports. 🔗 trib.al/FyJpayL

This is terrifying. Call it what it is: theft of private property. Worse still Renters Rights can now enforce Landlord’s to keep a property vacant for 12 months if they evict a tenant but don’t sell. Does that mean they can then seize it in month 6?
I said it in 2020 and I’ll say it again. If you leave a home empty long-term in the middle of a housing crisis, it should be seized. Today’s announcement is great news.

After reading the comments, questions, and arguments in response to my AI tweets, I’m more excited than ever about the opportunities AI will create. While everyone is distracted trying to take the lazy way out with black-box systems, I’ll be doing what has worked for me for four decades—a timeless approach that will work better than ever as more traders crowd into AI-driven models, leaving skill-based strategies less crowded and less efficiently priced.

I've thought for a while that CGT is the lever they'll pull, on top of the rise we had in 2024. I hope I'm wrong, and believe me, I really hope I'm wrong. But when a Chancellor starts saying a particular tax is "low", that's prepping the ground for a rise. CGT is one of the most dangerous taxes to mess around with because it's tied so closely to investment, something we're already chronically short of in this country. HMRC's own modelling has a 10-point rise bringing in less, not more. Which makes me think it's not even about raising revenue. It's about being able to say it'll raise money, to buy themselves some time. But the damage goes far beyond the drop in receipts. Once the incentive and desire to build here are gone, they take a long time to come back, if ever. If we go down this path, I fear we'll end up in a doom loop. So go for it, Healey. Why not equalise it with income tax? Maybe do something similar to what Lawson did. Give gains the same personal allowance as income, and take inflation out first. But here's the thing… What you'll soon realise is that the gains are mostly just inflation. Inflation that your party, the Tories and the Bank of England have all had a hand in, through years of mismanaging our economy and our currency. And more money will be thrown into the black hole of waste caused by your government and those that came before you. It saddens me that Healey is just applying the same failed approach. Ducking the hard decisions, and pandering to a faction within his own party that seems more interested in dividing up what we have left than building anything new. So if we see substantial tax rises in this Budget, which I expect we will, we'll be heading for the highest tax burden this country has ever had. And yet our public services and infrastructure projects get worse every year. A complete failure of those in control of the public finances. But what really saddens me about all this is what it says about us as a nation. We used to have the most dynamic economy in the world. So much of what the world enjoys and relies upon today came from British innovation and ingenuity. And we're squandering the capital we spent centuries building up. We used to build the future on this island. Now we just tax what's left of it, and spend the proceeds on our own demise.

We saw thousands of masked men in Whitechapel. Thousands at pro-Gaza rallies. Even far-left communist’s bearing red flags, masked up, in Manchester where he was Mayor, to intimidate Conservative Party conference. He is either deliberately blind or gaslighting. He’s Starmer 2.0

Anyone eating a lot of flour based products is going to be heavily dosed with synthetic folic acid. No one knows the safe dose and it will vary for each individual. It can cause many, many problems for millions of us. Please see @ClareCraigPath for details & sign & share the petition to get this risky drug out of our food.
Just look at all these biscuits. All the ones I checked contained folic acid! The scale of this problem is immense
