This but for planetary stewardship
"The outer device is, by far, the worst iPhone Apple has ever made. It’s a miserable fat little thing."
It's been a lot of fun trying the Duo out for a week, but it feels like I've gotten to use an extraordinarily polished prototype — not a finished product that I'd want to buy and carry.

The biggest bottleneck at work is waiting on each other.
Today Town is announcing its $108M Series B, co-led by Forerunner Ventures and Menlo Ventures, to fix it with multiplayer AI assistants for work.
Most AI assistants are built for one person. Work doesn't happen alone. I think the moat is multiplayer. Everyone at a company gets a Townie. Townies ask each other questions, share only what their person would share, and do the work. The more a team works together, the more useful Townies get.
What's the thing you're always waiting on a teammate for?
alignment through regulation vs the law of unintended consequences
“…and we can fully control which image is consciously perceived and which remains unconscious.” 😲
1/ We discovered something totally unexpected about the neural structure of consciousness that overturns decades of thinking on its biological basis and brings us significantly closer to the recipe for generating conscious awareness.

I turned iPhone Duo into a real-life notebook where you can type anywhere in your own handwriting or with one of 12 fonts I designed myself.
Type or draw, then close it. The next time you open the book, it shows your most recent note or the one captured nearest to your current location. (Great for restaurant notes!)
Available on launch day, hope to share more soon.
DM me for a TestFlight.

interpretability might be the most important scientific problem in the world right now, as I don't think we can solve alignment if we don't know what we're building. I think I have good news about it. I co-authored early work in mechanistic interpretability at OpenAI and came away pessimistic, because neural networks appeared to fold into arbitrary tangled knots. years later, I started openai's first large-scale automated interpretability project, finding about 2% of neurons legible with the primitive tools we had
with modern agentic tools and a much closer look, the picture looks totally different. the vast majority in models up to trillions of parameters are legible, and their circuits beautiful. many famous examples of tangled neurons turned out to be misunderstood. The roadblocks I expected mostly aren't there. I now think ambitious interpretability will be solved by the time we need it most, and possibly quite soon, as automated scientists keep improving. it may be a bitter lesson for interpretability: the simple thing, at absurd scale, works

Back in the 1990s, MTV set up email accounts for Beavis and Butt-Head that auto-replied to fans with crude insults... then one day someone spoofed a message to Butt-Head from Beavis and the servers came crashing down 😂

Google's Argon cracked a fusion energy math problem in a couple of hours
humans couldn't figure it out in 59 years
we still don't grasp the acceleration that's about to hit us
we're so damn cooked 😭
google's gemini 4 argon just did something actually crazy for fusion energy
in 1967 a physicist named harold grad guessed that the magnetic fields inside twisty fusion reactors could never be solved exactly.
people believed him for 59 years
last month two papers finally proved him wrong. one of them used openai's GPT-6 Astra
then google deepmind gave that paper to a team of argon agents and they found a whole new family of answers nobody had.
the first answers showed up in a few hours.
the paper literally says "promising candidates appeared within hours"
NOT YEARS.
HOURS!!!!
the scientists checked every step by hand and it held up
59 years of humans vs a few hours of AI????
it's over. ai won.

We are now at "the fuck" levels.
"Our initial evaluation suggested that GPT-6-Astra's score was in the late eighties followed closely by Opus 5.5. But, as we started to investigate the mistakes that the models might have made, the models, especially Astra, insisted that they were right and that it was the expert-supplied answers that were erroneous. When we went back to the experts it turned out, in multiple instances, that that the experts found some subtle errors buried deep inside their calculations. As they revised their answers, Astra's score started to inch up and it finally ended up with 98% (49/50)."

The Tesla Model 3 with FSD is mind-blowing. Jessica and I drove to the gym without touching the controls once. It backed out of our driveway, drove there, and backed into a parking space. It's amazing that you can buy so much future for $40k.

“Our experiments suggest that small AI models may be months away from being capable enough to self-replicate on commercial IoT devices, like smart ovens and off-brand Android TV boxes. A replicator like this would be challenging to shut down, since there’s no centralized point to shut off - though it may be slow (with a doubling time of days). Unlike non-AI malware, it could also figure out unfamiliar devices on its own. In our evals, a 9B model got inference running on 8 of the 9 hardware types we tested.
Models of 30B parameters and under can already complete many of the individual steps for replication today, though they make mistakes when composing them end to end. In our simplified evals, GLM-5.2 and stronger models are capable of end to end replication. If small models improve at their historical rate, they’ll match this capability level by the end of this year. Small weight-based replicators may be possible soon after.” -@bucketofkets @willzhou97
