Startup costs nobody warned me about (so you can prepare yourself)
- Legal fees:
Lawyers are so damn expensive; why didn’t anyone inform me?
The crazy part is that the cost of not engaging them is even higher.
Try to negotiate their services in bundles to save some money.
- Software & Tools:
Marketing tools, customer support, engineering, etc, the costs add up very quickly.
Look for local alternatives to save money, especially if you’re still early.
- Cloud Infrastructure:
This is one cost I’ve not recovered from, but thankfully, we’ve migrated to a more affordable platform.
Research and find the most cost-effective option for your startup.
- Accounting:
At some point, you’re going to need to start auditing your books and I wasn’t quite prepared for the cost of employing the services of auditors.
-Payment & Banking:
Processing fees, bank charges, transfer fees, etc
They seem small individually, but add up over time. Factor these costs into your pricing.
If you’re building your first startup, hopefully this saves you from a few surprises.
