Had the privilege to meet Matt while he was coaching @RugbyEGRFC . Thoughts are with his family and all those that had the privilege to work with and call him a friend.
Today we remember Sgt Matt Ratana, of the @metpoliceuk , who was murdered on duty at Croydon Police Station in 2020. This morning we laid our floral tribute at our memorial to mark the 6th anniversary of his death.

Remembering PC Nicola Hughes and PC Fiona Bone, of @gmpolice who were murdered on duty 14 years ago. 😔
We truly never know what to expect at any call we take.
Nicola and Fiona responded to a call for help, and ultimately gave their lives.
Always remembered.

Incredibly sad news to report that PC Robert ‘Rob’ Humphreys had died, 42 years after suffering life changing injuries in the line of duty.
PC Humphreys was struck by a moped and suffered serious head injuries in March 1984. He’d been a popular PC and member of North Wales Police Mountain Rescue Team prior to the collision.
Thinking of his friends, family, loved ones and of course colleagues today, the day of his funeral.

We wanted to provide some clarity around the two fundraising campaigns established for the families of PC Matty Blades and PC Tom Clough.
It appears that the Pocket Sergeant and Cleveland Police Federation fundraisers were launched independently at around the same time. When we established ours, we were unaware that the Federation was also in the process of launching a campaign.
Pocket Sergeant donated the first £1,000 to get our fundraiser started and we shared it once across our platforms.
Once we became aware that two campaigns had been established, I contacted Cleveland Police Federation explaining the situation and asked for a call or meeting so that we could agree the best way forward.
I decided to allow our campaign to continue for a simple reason: it was working.
People were actively donating and sharing it and the campaign was continuing to reach an increasingly large audience organically. Pocket Sergeant also has its own established audience within policing and beyond.
Closing a fundraiser that was gaining significant traction and replacing it with a link to another campaign risked losing that momentum and potentially losing donations. We felt it made far more sense to allow it to continue raising as much as possible, knowing that ultimately the funds would be brought together for the benefit of the same two families.
Importantly, once we became aware of the Cleveland Police Federation fundraiser, we did not promote or share our own campaign again. From that point onwards, we simply allowed it to continue reaching people organically and through those who chose to share it themselves.
There was never any attempt to compete with the Federation’s campaign.
Our fundraiser has now raised more than £38,000.
We have absolutely no issue with Cleveland Police Federation describing its fundraiser as its official campaign. It is the official Cleveland Police Federation fundraiser.
Unfortunately, some of the wider communications surrounding this led people to believe that our campaign was somehow not legitimate.
We subsequently received comments describing or implying that the Pocket Sergeant fundraiser was bogus, leaving us having to defend both the Pocket Sergeant brand and the legitimacy of our campaign.
That’s incredibly disappointing and takes attention away from the reason we established the fundraiser in the first place.
We are awaiting Cleveland Police Federation’s availability for an in-person meeting so that we can agree the way forward. I’ve also spoken directly with GoFundMe this morning about the appropriate arrangements for the funds.
Most importantly, the £38,000+ raised through our campaign will quite rightly be brought together for the benefit of Matty and Tom’s families.
At the time of writing, Cleveland Police Federation’s campaign has raised an extraordinary £500,000, meaning that between the two campaigns more than £538,000 has now been raised.
A massive thank you to everyone who has donated to or shared either campaign. The response from the policing community and wider public has been incredible.
Also, thanks to our friends at @UKCopHumour & @bs_pearson for sharing the campaign very early on.
Let’s not lose sight of why both campaigns were established in the first place: Matty, Tom and their families.

Player safety is paramount, a simple and correct decision from those above.
Big news for local rugby clubs
Start of community rugby season postponed

This decision is utter bollocks, no one convicted of killing anyone in the manner they killed PC Harper should be eligible for release at all.
If the decision to release them was possible, the decision not to release them is also possible.
Nearly 900,000 amazing people have pledged to support PC Harper’s family to see that true justice is done.
It’s so, so close to a million, thank you for sharing.

Today we say goodbye to a man who changed Newcastle United forever.
Kevin Keegan wasn’t just a player or a manager – he was the heartbeat of a city that dared to dream again. From his arrival as a superstar in 1982 to leading the club back to the Premier League and building the unforgettable “Entertainers”, he gave generations of supporters memories that will never fade.
He brought belief, passion, attacking football and pride back to St James’ Park. His love for Newcastle was genuine, and the love the city gave him in return was unmatched.
His legacy will live on every time the Gallowgate roars, every time supporters sing his name, and every time black and white shirts take to the pitch with pride.
“There’s only one Kevin Keegan, one Kevin Keegan, walking along singing a song, walking in a Keegan Wonderland.”
Rest in peace, King Kev. Thank you for everything. You’ll never be forgotten.

Kevin was more than a legendary footballer and manager. He was the beating heart of Newcastle United for generations of supporters.

I will never stop talking about this. Being a paramedic comes with a responsibility to put good out into the world, and I don’t take that privilege for granted.
Please remember that there is support out there. You are not alone, 999 will be there if you need us.
Stay safe tonight everyone.

It's only a game Don't be a dick...
Every time England step onto the pitch in a World Cup, the country gears up for ninety minutes of hope, tension and national pride. But away from the stadiums and fan zones, another pattern plays out, one that’s far less celebrated and far more predictable.
Domestic violence rises when England play. It rises when they win, when they lose, and even when they draw. The data is consistent across multiple tournaments and multiple police forces. Abuse increases by more than a third when England lose. It still rises by over a quarter when they win. Alcohol‑related abuse jumps sharply. The day after a match, the risk remains elevated. Some forces report their busiest domestic abuse days of the entire year during England fixtures. NHS services see more injuries linked to domestic abuse during tournaments. None of this is new, and none of it is accidental.
Football doesn’t cause abuse. Abusers cause abuse. But the World Cup amplifies the risk. Heightened emotions, alcohol, gambling stress and late‑night fixtures all combine to create a pressure point that victims feel long after the final whistle.
For those of us working in healthcare, safeguarding, policing, education or community support, this is a warning. A reminder that preparation matters.
If you or someone you know is affected, support is available. The National Domestic Abuse Helpline is open 24/7 on 0808 2000 247. Men can contact the Men’s Advice Line on 0808 8010 327 or the ManKind Initiative on 01823 334244. LGBTQ+ victims can reach Galop on 0800 999 5428. Childline is available for young people on 0800 1111.
The World Cup is a celebration for many. For others, it’s a danger period.
