Anthropic published The AI-Native SDLC Playbook last week saying, “code is no longer the bottleneck.” I agree. All year long, I’ve been asking myself the questions that naturally follow: What becomes the bottleneck next? If models can generate code faster and faster, what actually determines whether a change is good enough to ship? If teams are going to use multiple models and agents, what has to remain durable underneath them? And as agents become more autonomous, how do people understand and steer what hundreds of them are doing at once? My view: faster code generation is already exposing the next constraints. Solving them is where the next wave of value in agentic engineering will come from. Verification, context, execution infrastructure and governance start to matter more than model choice. Put differently: when implementation becomes abundant, trust becomes scarce. I wrote down my view of what comes next: When Code Is Abundant about.gitlab.com/blog/when-c…

@gitlab also signed the Open Weights and American AI Leadership letter. For most companies, software is core IP. How you manage it, and how you protect your business and customers against security, privacy, and competitive threats, is one of the most strategic decisions a company makes. That decision shouldn't be locked to one cloud or one model vendor. GitLab is the only platform that's genuinely cloud neutral and model neutral. You decide where your code lives. You decide which model does the work. That choice only holds up if the model market stays open. I think the future is a mix of models matched to the task, each tuned for the best price and performance for the customer. Open models keep that market honest. They drive real competition on performance and price, and they keep control in the customer's hands.

For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter. AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country. Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty. The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models. images.nvidia.com/pdf/Open-W…

GitLab Duo Agent Platform agents can now call foundation models through Vertex AI, including Gemini. Every agent action is governed by the same controls as your human developers, and you can choose to have usage count toward your existing Google Cloud commitments.
GitLab Duo Agent Platform agents can now call foundation models through Vertex AI, including Gemini. AI agents that build software need more than a capable model. They need context from the issue that started the work, the repository it touches, the pipeline that validates the result, and the security policies that govern what ships.

Centralized security can't keep pace with modern business complexity. As attack surfaces grow, federated #governance is becoming essential. #CISOs set policy, business units execute with context. The result? Faster decisions, smarter tech adoption, and #security that scales. Read why Josh Lemos, CISO at @gitlab says #federation will reshape enterprise security in 2026 → vmblog.com/archive/2026/02/0…

Is Agentic AI Living Up to the Hype in Business & Cybersecurity? #RealTalk 👀 I had the pleasure to share some honest truth about the current state of AI and the concerns most CISOs have in a conversation with awesome folks like Julie & Sara. It was hosted by the charming Salman from @gitlab . We dove deep into the promise and reality of Agentic AI in today's business and cybersecurity landscape. Some hot takes, some hard truths, and a lot of thoughtful discussion. If you're wrestling with how to separate genuine innovation from overblown claims, you will find this conversation interesting. 🎥 Full Interview - fnf.dev/3SChxPL PS - Stick around till the end for a light-hearted moment where I may or may not have had a little on-air mishap. 😅 cc AI CyberSecurity Podcast #gitlab #agenticai #ai
