Since 2019, road deaths have fallen 28% in Denmark. In Ireland they’ve risen 30%. Denmark systematically identifies where people are being killed and seriously injured, engineers out the risks and reduces speed. Road safety is about system change. Source: European Commission

A real pattern of hit-and-runs over the past year. Really troubling to see. Tough sentences the only deterrent. RIP Gardaí on hunt for van driver after fatal hit-and-run in Co Kerry in early hours of morning jrnl.ie/7174282

Shocking. Max 10 years for leaving the scene of a fatality following #Shaneslaw these sentences need to be imposed. We need a change in culture with how road traffic matters and deaths are dealt with through tough sentencing.
This is now the 11th person to be killed on Irish roads this year whilst cycling. In at least 3 of those, the driver has fled the scene!! WTAF is wrong with these people…!! 😡 Leaving someone to die on the road.. Angry 😡 beyond words @DarraghOBrienTD rte.ie/news/ireland/2026/090…

The mother of a man killed in a hit-and-run by a driver who was in breach of bail conditions has criticised the slow pace of bail reform. Addressing the Oireachtas Justice Committee, Lucia O'Farrell said a key recommendation to improve information sharing between Gardaí and the courts has yet to be implemented, despite being included in a government-commissioned report last year. Disgraceful sentence. Driver behaviour won't change unless there are consequences and that is through heavy custodial sentences. Man gets suspended sentence after knocking down woman and leaving her with life-changing injuries jrnl.ie/7044759
