A Christian electorate is not moved by a 24-hour news cycle. This is Latah County, home of Moscow, ID, one of the blue dots in Idaho. Despite the massive liberal influence of the University of Idaho, Latah was one of the few counties that moved more conservative. Christ Church keeps planting new churches. Every year former babies turn voting age. Church members are productive and start local businesses. But it’s not just a large church community or productive congregants that wins elections. The church’s theology grounds their political theology. The Christians of Moscow are not populists. They don’t move to and fro with every trending tweet or favorite X influencer’s opinion. Their theology is permanent and unshakeable, and so are their political convictions. The other Christians, and Atheist conservatives in town see it and are then motivated with the confidence that we can win. The GOP should take note. Charlie Kirk was the cornerstone of American politics for the same reason: he grounded his politics in a higher conviction that wasn’t moved back and forth with every news cycle. Strong local Christian communities grounded in a solid local church unafraid of speaking prophetically to the political sphere are the only way to win. Many Republicans will try to move their messaging left after last night’s defeat. That’s cowardly and weak. The way to winning in 2028 is to become more grounded in our values and anchor them to our faith. Republicans need to solidify their politics in the Christian faith.
