Some of my favorite people in the world got together to start a new business. Congrats on the unveiling!
News: Peloton ex-CEO John Foley is back with a new startup — selling rugs.
Launched with two of his former cofounders and a team of ex-Peloton managers, Ernesta has already raised $25M from investors for its direct-to-consumer, custom-cut rugs.

.@michaelmina_lab has taught me that a PCR test is not 66 hours better than a rapid antigen test. A same-day antigen test might do a lot of good. But a 72-hour-old PCR test won't help much if the PCR doesn't turn positive until a day before a person becomes infectious.
Ticketed guests 2 years and older will need one of the these:
🔶 Full vaccination (at least 14 days prior)
🔷 Negative PCR COVID test (within 72 hours)
🔶 Negative Antigen test (within 6 hours)

Great news. If this had gone the other way, there would have been an urgent need for new legislation to clean this up. Adapting to third-party APIs is a core part of how modern software operates.
BREAKING: In major copyright battle between tech giants, SCOTUS sides w/ Google over Oracle, finding that Google didnt commit copyright infringement when it reused lines of code in its Android operating system. The code came from Oracle's JAVA SE platform. supremecourt.gov/opinions/20…
Proud of @onepeloton. I wish I, or anyone, had a magic answer. But supporting those working for positive change is a worthwhile step.
The Black community is hurting. Our Black Members, instructors, music partners and employees are hurting. #BlackLivesMatter, and it’s time to take action. To start, we're making a $500,000 donation to NAACP LDF. We have more work to do. Will you join us?
Not yet, but this could be a simple intermediate step to returning to normal. It doesn’t rely on magical advances in testing or in contact tracing.

This is a bad interview question from Amazon: boingboing.net/2020/02/18/ca…. In 1691, it took some of the world's top mathematicians to solve this. No one's solving it on the spot today unless they happen to have studied the catenary or something similar.

Google is turning into GoTo (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahoo!…). To play devil's advocate, you could argue this is a good thing, as the provider willing to pay per click is often higher quality than the one with the shadiest SEO. A competitive search engine market would sort itself out...

The discussion on the thread is fascinating. It seems related to the idea that true top-down design for large projects is impossible.
Gall’s Law: “A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked. A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be patched up to make it work. You have to start over with a working simple system.” (Via @davewiner)
Some Googling confirmed they meant @grahamstantonco. But now I'm even more confused.

I don't normally gripe about a big corporations product choices. But this keyboard was so bad, I already downgraded to a 2015 13" MacBook Pro. Sidecar support for older devices would suit me better, but people stuck with a butterfly keyboard should at least get an upgrade credit.
Replying to @dhh
So I completely support this petition for Apple to do right by the customers who got screwed over with by the butterfly design. Give them the working computer they paid for. Almost 40K signatures already! Let's boost this to the moon. chng.it/hgDc55fw6T
This is a great thread. The problem is possibly more insidious. @GoldmanSachs insists gender isn't factored into the credit decision, which is probably true on the surface. But bias can creep in by including other variables that track gender.

A public dialog between @ewarren and @BillGates would be fascinating. Solving "these problems" requires creativity but also hard work and experimentation. But it also requires sacrifice. It's hard to imagine a genuine discussion that doesn't acknowledge that at the outset.
Replying to @BillGates @ewarren
I’m always willing to talk about creative solutions to these problems.
.@ClueHeywood is off Peloton and onto Buttigieg. That's about right.

Reliable source of startup ideas: reduce the gap between ideas and money.
In this sense, AWS and Stripe are in the same business.
Trust could be re-earned with an audit trail of consent for sharing of contact info. E.g. you could see that The Lego Movie got your contact info from your cable company and that your cable company's privacy policy allows them to sell your info.

Struggling to understand the Amazon/NYC situation. Was Amazon going to bring 25K new jobs or 25K new people? If the former, surely the 25K will find almost-as-good jobs and still pay taxes. If the latter, I understand the community's fear of gentrification and displacement.
