This is a bad enough look for Maryland athletics that it makes you forget they were the first power conference program to fire their football coach this season.
Kudos to these student journalists, the only true pros involved in this story.
For @testudotimes, @JudeWilkenfeld and I were outside Jones-Hill House trying to get players to comment. An athletics staffer took pictures of us, and a police dispatch was called for suspicious activity; a cop and 2 cop cars pulled up, and officers ID’d us and asked us to leave.

“4X, baby!”
Chris Godwin has now gone seven straight games without getting 50+ receiving yards -- he hadn't had a stretch of longer than three games like that at any point since the first half of his rookie season in 2017. And he played with Evans-Gronk-Antonio Brown for two years.
Both Mayfield and Daniels ahead of the average on time to throw here, and Daniels' average depth of target, as expected, is among the lowest in the league.
Chris Godwin on keeping the Bucs' locker room positive amid a 1-5 start: "We're not far off from where we want to be. We're close in every game. We haven't made the plays that we needed to in crucial moments. That has to change if we want things to change for us."
Chris Godwin on Baker Mayfield returning to practice today: "It was good to have him back. He's the leader of our team. It's good to see him back out there throwing. He's Bake, so I'm sure as he gets going, he'll feel better."
So if the QB uncertainty wasn't enough, the Bucs practiced today without their leading rusher (illness), their leading receiver (concussion/foot), their starting right tackle (calf) and a starting corner (illness).
First injury report for Bucs and Panthers shows Baker Mayfield as a full participant. Five Bucs are dealing with illness. Emeka Egbuka dealing with concussion and foot injuries, Luke Goedeke has a calf injury.
Why has Chris Godwin had a slow start, under 50 receiving yards in all six games? “That’s a great question. I wish I had an answer. It’s a multitude of things … it’s definitely frustrating at times.”
Chris Godwin on his limited role in Bucs’ 1-5 start: “It’s definitely been interesting, different than anything I’ve been through in my career … I’m trying to stick to the process and make sure I’m where I need to be.”
Video: Todd Bowles talks about Baker Mayfield’s first day back at practice as he recovers from his thumb injury.
Todd Bowles said it was “encouraging” to see what Baker Mayfield was able to do today in his first practice. They’ll evaluate his progress Thursday and move from there.

.@NFLSTROUD said the #Bucs still don't have a No. 1 WR:
"I keep watching Mike Evans drag himself out there with a bad Achilles, broken ribs, whatever it takes & he is still putting up 100 yards a game in San Francisco. They're knighting the guy right now; he's going to retire a 49er at this pace." 🤣
"Who is the go to guy on this offense?" Rick Stroud asked.

First drill Baker Mayfield works through at practice is a ball-security drill where they’re trying to knock the ball out.
