A Dutch supermarket chain introduced slow checkouts for people who enjoy chatting, helping many people, especially the elderly, deal with loneliness. The move has proven so successful that they installed the slow checkouts in 200 stores.

Psst Biden administration. Florida should only have room for one coup architect at most.

This sounds just like the Texas deep freeze in February 2021 and the failures of fossil power plants in Ercot. These allegedly "firm" resources (gas, coal) proved to not be there when we needed them during winter cold snaps. That's unacceptable & dangerous.
As reported by Duke Energy yesterday, the largest cause of the rolling blackouts on Christmas Eve was coal and natural gas plants generating far less than rated. Between those plant failures and loss of purchases from outside of territory, they lost 2,500 MW of generation.

periodic reminder that Fahrenheit 451 isn't about government censorship but a society so inundated with entertainment and technology that it's discarded the humanities voluntarily, in the process becoming cruel, bigoted and inhuman.

I, for one, am stunned to learn that the evidence-free claims of surging violent crime that powered Fox News’s coverage from late September until 11 pm on Nov. 8 were largely unfounded. nytimes.com/2022/12/30/brief…

My flight is overbooked and they lady offered $700 for anyone who volunteered to fly out tomorrow. So I yelled “it’s a scam - legally they owe you $1500 or 4x your ticket whichever is lowest!” So EVERYONE waited till she said $1500 to stand up. Why am I like this?😂

I do think smart phones are a net negative. You used to be able to go out with friends and just make up wild lies like "samurai's were forbidden from jumping" or "dolphins are the only animal that doesn't poop" and only their wits could aid them. Now they can just "look it up".
