Nice blog post from @memyselfandHCI on an exploration of how the Wikipedia community views the role of automated decision-support agents and principles that emerge. Work with me, @Haiyi_Zhu, @halfak, Bowen Yu, and Anjali Sravastava. (CHI 2020 paper)
We'd prefer R2-D2. New blog from @memyselfandHCI about her honorable mention #CHI2020 paper on human-centered ML on @Wikipedia. Read here: z.umn.edu/wikipediaAI/

ALT Two pane comic captioned "Which AI would you want on your team?" First pane depicts R2-D2 looking at a Wikipedia page and saying "Hey patroller, we've got some Jedi material here... she just needs a bit of help!" Second pane depicts the Terminator blasting a computer screen with the same Wikipedia page and saying "My work here is done."

Let's talk about this particular brand of garbage behavior on Wikipedia, because this is why I precisely why I stopped editing. Something very similar happened to me a number of years ago when I tried to increase the coverage of children's literature on Wikipedia. [Thread]
thanks to the @Wikipedia editor who spent their wednesday night tagging the recent biographies i’ve started for #WomenInSTEM as not notable enough to be included in the encyclopaedia. it’s really constructive and helpful work. 🤬😭
