Tice's 3% figure is highly misleading. It is arrived at by including natural releases of CO2 (plants, soil, oceans) as well as human emissions. But natural releases are balanced out by natural absorption. Gross emissions of CO2 are almost 100% man-made. (3/4)

We can have a reasonable political discussion about what priority net zero should be, how much we should spend on it, the impact on bills... But scientists are not debating this. Climate change happening now is caused by humans. Policy should be grounded in facts. (4/4)

To add to this thread: ending rough sleeping would require investment in mental health and addiction services, as well as housing - all of which have a wider public benefit And it's an understandable goal for multiple depts to get behind, if working together is a priority.
Seen a few people saying rough sleeping policy isn’t aimed at median public concern. Quite apart from any policy/moral imperative it really is - rough sleeping comes up time again in focus groups as one of the most visible signs of Broken Britain and community decline!

Choosing 'end rough sleeping' as your first pledge on entering Downing St is definitely A Statement - and maybe at this point, that's what matters. But delivery will require investment in mental health and addiction services, as well as housing. Andy Burnham has all the levers.

On the youth guarantee, what does 'a guaranteed paid work placement' actually mean? A week? A month? The Bristol pilot scheme offers a two-week placement, but there's no guarantee of a job at the end of it (and it's too soon to know the results). bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyz…

Emails from Winford Parish Council suggest the Home Office started to use this hotel in 2022, when the Conservatives were in government.
Nestling in over 7 acres, the Winford Manor Hotel is a delightful place for illegal migrants to stay at the British taxpayers’ expense. It probably encourages them to come.

People would only qualify for PIP if they score ‘four points’ in a single category. What does that actually mean? You could be at risk of choking, need help to wash hair or lower limbs, need prompting to go to the toilet - and not qualify.

Spoke to a woman yesterday whose husband has a serious neurological condition. He wears splints, has frequent falls, experiences daytime fatigue, sometimes chokes on his food - but under the new rules wouldn't qualify for PIP.
