Flooding is the leading cause of weather-related deaths, and most occur in vehicles. That is why you should never attempt to drive through flooded roadways. It’s impossible to tell how deep the water is or if the road underneath has been washed away. It only takes 12 inches of water to carry off a small car.

Flooding isn’t just a coastal problem. With nearly a third of all National Flood Insurance Program claims coming from outside high‑risk zones, every household should double‑check their coverage. Most homeowner and renters’ policies don’t cover flooding. Make sure your home is protected. Find out more at ReadyNC.gov.

This week is going to be a hot one, knowing the difference between heat watch & warning can be lifesaving. Watch means dangerously high temps are possible. Warning means the dangerously high temps are happening. Stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity!

Emergencies aren’t just worse versions of bad days-qualitatively different cognitive states, team dynamics, failure modes.
You can’t prepare for them by just doing more of what you already do.
You have to train (and train your systems) specifically for crisis.

Carbon Monoxide is a silent killer. Its odorless and colorless so make sure you have CO alarms installed especially near sleeping areas. NEVER use a generator, grill, or stove inside your home, garage, or even near an open window. This can cause a deadly CO buildup in your home.

Fire danger is elevated across most of the state today. Outdoor burning is NOT recommended. Dry grasses, dead leaves and other vegetative debris could easily ignite and spread quickly.
Spread prevention, not wildfire.

Just saw Avatar: Fire and Ash. One of my favorite parts was watching a long spine board used correctly, as a movement tool without attempted immobilization. James Cameron is paying attention. Are you?
Bonus points for anyone who can identify in the comments below the H:MM when this scene occurs!
