🚨 BUDGET CHAOS: DOWNING STREET SLAPS DOWN HEALEY’S PLEDGE TO CUT WELFARE WITHIN HOURS! Every taxpayer in this country needs to see what happened the morning after the Budget. Asked on the BBC if he would cut benefits before the next election, John Healey said: “There will be a reduction in the benefits bill.” Treasury sources then downplayed it, and by lunchtime No10 said there would be no “arbitrary target or timetable”. The OBR forecasts the benefits bill will hit £353 billion this year and £431 billion by 2031-32. Healey’s answer was to wait for two reviews next month, a White Paper next year and legislation in 2027. Shadow Chancellor Andrew Griffith called the climbdown “unbelievable”. Reform’s Robert Jenrick said the Chancellor “has been utterly humiliated by his handlers”. Meanwhile, the defence funding plan has been pushed to next year’s Spending Review, Rosebank is undecided and the 15-year migrant settlement plan is still stuck. The IFS says the Budget delayed tough choices. So here is the question for Andy Burnham: if the Chancellor says welfare will be cut and Downing Street says there is no target, who is actually in charge?
