Christmas can be a wonderful time of year but it can also be incredibly tough for people. For so many reasons it can actually be the toughest. There is happiness everywhere and an abundance of excess to be had everywhere you look. I know it’s a time when i always struggled when I was drinking and battling other addictions and demons.
It can seem like you are alone. That the whole world is against you. How can everybody be so happy yet here you are feeling so worthless, down or panic ridden. I just wanted to say that you are not alone and millions of others have the same issues.
The most remarkable thing I ever got for Christmas was a phone call just before I went into ICU. It was a simple humble an unexpected call from someone checking in. It’s why I think it’s important to remember that it’s not designer handbags, PlayStations or iPads that make this time of year. It could be a simple detour to see someone. A 10 minute chat with an old friend that means the world to them. Swallowing your pride to say sorry to someone. It’s the little things. The checking in to let someone know they are not alone.
As for me I’m sad and missing Derek and Jumbo is very ill beside me as I write this but I’m also optimistic. I’ve lots of dogs to look after, I’m forcing myself to be social and have not 1 but 2 Christmas meals with friends and I love the life I have. I’m lucky and humble about that now because it wasn’t always that way.
Maybe one person who needs to see this will. It’s just a time of year. If you are having it tough you are not alone. If you are doing well yourself have a little check in with somebody you know probably needs it 🙏🥰

Saving 1000s Of Dogs Thanks To You 🥰🙏🐶
One person can save a few dogs and do some good on their own doorstep but to save dogs around the world at scale you need any army of people.
You might see my videos feeding street dogs from a moped and get a little smile but I wanted to explain the scope and breath of what is being built. What this movement actually looks like…
287 Sterilisations In September ✂️🐕
In 2022 I managed to sterilise a grand total of 302 dogs. That took me 9 months to do as I was catching them myself and bringing them to the vets.
🔵In the month of September alone I’ve been able to fund the sterilisation of 287.
🔵Since the mission started it is 1700.
🔵I have 4 different partners now helping including the first in Bali (below)
It’s hard to explain just how much effort this takes, how many people are involved and the logistics. The action of all those people mean 1000s of unwanted puppies will never be born into suffering.
This is the live map of our sterilisations. Just imagine every dot on there is saving dozens of lives.

200,000 Meals Served So Far This Year 🥘
Feeding 800 dogs out on the streets and in shelters is not easy. This is the part that takes the most collaboration. I fund it but it also involves…
🔵Thai lady and her 2 helpers cooking
🔵A friend who helps with the logistics and planning (shopping etc)
🔵Delivery man getting the food out daily around the island
🔵10 Different volunteers and locals who hand the food out
The end result is that we’ve just served the 200,000th meal of the year. Each street dog has a healthy and freshly cooked meal every single day packed full of goodness. A real team effort.
Some Special Dogs Re-Homed Around The World ✈️
Re-homing dogs might not be the long term solution to saving street dogs but it changes the world for that one dog. For every single individual dog that does get a forever home it often takes 20-30 people to get it there (from rescue to the final journey). There have been some very special dogs in September…
🔵Brad Pitt. I'm super proud to say that Brad became the first dog to reach America when he touched down in Los Angeles after an epic journey via Japan. He is settling in superbly with his 2 new human and 2 cat friends.
🔵Buttons. Yes the Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher did adopt little Buttons. What I love most about it is not just the fact that Buttons got an amazing forever home but that it shows that adopting is a great way for anybody to go.
🔵Num. After being too soft for the streets little Num made it to England with me on the journey with Buttons. While it nearly killed me physically the 2 dogs handled it superbly. Num could not be happier in her new home.
Dozens Of Dogs Lives Saved With Vet Treatment 💊
While the detailed planning has started for Tina’s hospital we still need to treat dogs on a daily basis. Myself and the people who help me spend a lot of time in the vets. Without them we would have lost many lives. A couple of examples…
🔵Hank the Tank who arrived yesterday and who needed life saving wound cleaning. His story shows how many people it takes to save one dog.
🔵The 2 puppies who were in the vets for 15 days clinging to their little lives in Isolation with Parvo. They somehow made it and are back at the land and will be looking for homes soon.
One key element are the vets, helpers, people who drive, people who give out medicines and all the other caring dog lovers on the ground.
The other key is people online who chip in and help individual dogs with their treatments. Along with kind vets giving me discounted rates this means so many more lives can be saved and suffering eased.
5 Other Random Great Things Happening 🌴🐶🥳
There are so many great dog things happening right now that it is hard to keep up. Here are a quick selection…
🔵McMuffin met her daughter and grand daughter before flying to Germany to her forever home. I’d say her recovery journey involves 50 people.
🔵Stitch came to live at the land as he starts the search for a forever home
🔵Cindy Crawford arrived and started her diet. She has half the world willing her on every step of the way
🔵People gave me 100s of presents for all the individual dogs including bandanas, toys and special custom blankets
🔵The book I wrote has been bought by 1000s of people all over the world. I’ll be using every single penny of that to help fund Tina’s hospital. (Available here niallharbison.lnk.to/Hope)
People Make This Possible 🙏🥰
There are about 50 other big things going on that I’ve yet to share that involve people helping the dogs. What I wanted to do with this update was try and give a sense that this is about so much more than just me. People from all over the world want to help dogs and join this mission. I feel and see that every single day.
I wrote this week about having anxiety and depression. I think it was a mixture of burnout, grief (for Snoop and Tina) and feeling the pressure of so much expectation on my shoulders. There are so many good things happening but it can be quite daunting at times. What I’m trying to do as you can see above is spread the load and get as many people involved as possible. I know many others are itching to help too and I promise I’m building out more ways for that to happen.
This was a week where I felt the support and love from around the world in 1000 different ways. When I was laying in my dark room doing my breathing trying to get the anxiety to pass I felt that support like a huge wave of positivity. Now as I sit here writing this doing much better and looking at the great things happening for the dogs I only have one feeling and that is to push on and deliver on the full potential of this mission. Thank you.
Big Love

Tina's Hospital 🌴🐶🥰
When I was filling in Tina’s grave I had tears in my eyes but I got the manual work done and after a step back took a long deep breath.
My good friend Sybille had been with me at the end and she bowed her head instinctively knowing that it was a time to say nothing.
I just shouted into the air at nobody in particular “Your life won’t be in vain, I’ll do something amazing in your name”.
That something is going to be “Tinas Hospital For Dogs Who Aren’t Doing So Good”.
I’ve been very surprised at how taken people have been with the idea so I wanted to share what my thinking is…
Timeline For The Build ⏰ 📅
I’m always stupidly optimistic for these things. Initially I was thinking 3 months then convinced myself 6 might be more realistic. In reality I’ve talked myself down and am now saying it will take a year. Just under it. We’ll have it finished on the 18th August 2024. One year after Tina died. We’ll open it at 4.45pm the exact time she passed.
The things that will take time and that I can’t speed up include…
🔵Building permissions
🔵Licenses and legals
🔵World class staff
🔵A charter and operational procedures. (who gets treated? how to deal with long term stays, how to manage free care etc)
My own computer screen saver is the photo below of Tina the day she arrived broken with her bones showing versus her looking fabulous. Every time I see that It drives me on. The hospital will be a place to welcome in dogs like Tina the day she arrived.
That transformation took many months. Good things take time and patience.
Funding The Hospital 💵🏥
The research for this has started. I am obviously not a vet nor have I ever built a hospital before. What I have started to assemble are a bunch of people who know about this sort of stuff. What I have in my head as a guideline for them are some pretty big numbers…
🔵Initial build budget of $500,000 to $1,000,000.
🔵Running costs of $20,000 to $50,000 per month
While those are big scary numbers I think if something is worth doing it is worth doing right. Especially something in Tina’s name.
Funding Sources…
I haven’t got around to planning this in full yet but my ideas so far are…
🔵The book is selling well. I will have the final revenue numbers on this at the end of the year. As I said every penny I earn from it will be used. I’m hopeful It might get close to 6 figures over the next year.
🔵I am going to have an amazing Tina T-Shirt. It will cost $60. Roughly $20 to produce and ship so there will be $40 profit. My idea is to sell 10,000 of these and that would bring in $400,000. Ambitious and tricky to execute but I think people would support the cause. A limited edition Tina T-Shirt that helps build a hospital.
🔵Lots of people want to get involved with fundraising to make this happen. I’ve said to just wait for now as I need the plan and detailed costs etc. When the time is right I’ll get everybody involved in a community way with an overall total needed.
🔵Individuals or companies. Once I get the full list of everything we need I think people might be interested in sponsoring parts of it. A testing machine. Some equipment. Computers. Whatever we need I’ll make a wish list of and people could have them named after them.
I want to design the funding so as it is community focused so as it feels like the hospital was built not by me but by dog lovers all over the world. Obviously the hospital will be for street dogs and will not be focused on making money.
The Hospital Is Already Effectively In Operation Without A Home ✂️ 🦴 🐕
Tina’s hospital will be a wonderful physical place to centre everything on but the reality is that work helping dogs is already happening…
In September we will fund the sterilising of 300+ Dogs. Those are in 3 locations
There are sick puppies and multiple dogs in the vets for a week as I write this
We spend $2000-5000 a month on operations like fixing little Tommy’s leg, getting Stitch to walk again and giving Essi a 2nd chance with a life saving amputation.
The amount of dogs I can help at the moment is limited by costs, vet space, transport and a lack of some machines on the island. The hospital will fix all that.
Moving From Distraction To Pure Focus 🙏
Since Tina and Snoop died I have been exceptionally busy with dogs, the book, travel and bigger picture admin work. I think I subconsciously did that to keep myself distracted in a time I knew would be very painful. What has happened since the dogs passed has been the most powerful motivation ever…
I’ve met 1000s of people who have told me of the importance of the mission. Hearing it first hand has been incredible to help me grasp the impact.
I’ve seen many of the dogs that we have re-homed in the UK and Thailand. Thats had a huge impact on me to do more.
People have given me heartfelt letters, gifts and personal pieces to use at Tina’s hospital. Nothing expensive but the sort of things money can’t buy.
It’s been lovely and a wonderful motivational distraction but everybody knows my heart is on the ground with the dogs. I’ll be happy when I’m there helping more sick dogs and looking at concrete being poured for the hospital ASAP.
I love and feel all the support. There is now a very clear and tangible goal and I cannot waste this opportunity to do something incredible by building Tina’s hospital. Even though I’ve been tired recently I lay in bed visualising the entrance and all the lovely art work and children’s drawings on the walls and sick dogs checking in and out with a hive of activity and positivity in the building. It will be a very special place.
It won’t be easy but I’ll get it done!
Big Love
Niall

Please retweet @RishiSunak how dare you appear on Twitter now re pets when myself and all the registered animal charities have been messaging you for 2 years re the pet crisis in the UK?
Why have you waited for people to be hurt to show an interest in pets?
Banning the XL Bully a token gesture when you should be working to stop the online sales of pets, doing more to check who owns a pet and that people research and are responsible before they can own a pet?
If you ban the XL Bully, those owners that are the problem now will turn to the next large breed.
Put a team of REAL experts together, consult with @RSPCA_official on what will really keep pets and people safe. Ban the pet selling sites and people selling pets as if they are inanimate objects.
Pets are falling into the wrong hands and will continue to if you ban the XL Bully.
The government, @RishiSunakm have nor acted in 2 years, since the crisis for pets started after lockdown and are very much at fault here.

Farewell Tina - The Greatest Dog There Ever Was
Yesterday at 4.45 PM Tina gently passed away. She was in her favourite hammock wrapped in blankets in my arms and with 4 lovely woman who have helped care for her holding her paws. Her belly was full of sausages and treats, she was basking in the warm late evening sun and her favourite song was playing.
Tina was still alive in this picture but as far as she was concerned she was already very much in heaven and surrounded by pure love.
When The Time Came, Tina Left With Dignity 🐶❤️
Tina’s test results had been really bad for a month. We did everything imaginable to prolong her life. She followed me every single day on my rounds often going on 7-8 walks with other dogs despite her illness for fear of being alone or missing out.
On Thursday for the first time ever she came on one short walk and then retreated to rest. I’d never seen that before. When I came back with my dinner and she couldn’t get up to greet me at the door I instantly knew the time had come. I didn’t need blood tests or a vet to tell me. Tina had given everything she had left to give.
Up until the very last moment she always had a fresh clean bandana on, she ate the very best food and she was genuinely happy and at ease with her world. It will please everybody to know that Tina didn’t suffer one bit.
I Was Just A Conduit To Share Tina’s Message
I get about X20 more messages about Tina compared to every other dog I share. People picked up on her innate almost spiritual qualities through a screen thousands of miles away without ever meeting her.
We loved each other deeply but literally thousands of others loved Tina in their own way too. She was a beacon of hope. A soul so pure she could change people’s entire daily outlook from afar. Tina didn’t have a bad bone in her body and her ability to inspire others who were also struggling was all down to her. She radiated purity of soul and gentle goodness.
They really broke the mould when they made Tina.
Great Things Will Happen In Tina’s Name
Her final resting place is not in Giuseppe’s memorial garden with the other dogs who have passed. She is buried beside her hammock so I can sit and tell her how the mission to save street dogs around the world is going.
Much more important though is what I spoke to her about this morning after fixing up her flowers…
🔵This will be the site for a new hospital for street dogs
🔵It will be built right on top of her in this exact spot
🔵It will be called the “The Tina Hospital For Dogs Who Aren’t Doing So Good”
🔵The entrance will have a huge smiling photo of Tina
🔵I’ll figure out a way to get the best staff, machines and medicines
I won’t be able to do it overnight as I need to figure out logistics, planning and funding but It’s a promise to Tina now, so that means it will be done. And it will be done fast.
I can’t think of a better thing to do than having 100s of sick and needy dogs like she once was treated there. She would love that.
187 Joyous And Life Changing Days 🌞 🛵 🌴
Tina was put on this planet for a reason. We live in times with a lot of uncertainty, doom and gloom and endless negativity. After being on a chain for years, having dozens of puppies and nearly dying alone she would have every reason to also be down on life.
In the 187 days that we all knew her, Tina was… Compassionate. Beautiful. Gentle. Loving. Friendly. Easy Going. Loyal. Positive. Supportive. Angelic. Graceful.
She lit up any room or space she was in. People gravitated towards her. She didn’t need anything fancy or expensive. A tennis ball, her humans and some tasty food was all Tina ever looked for. She taught us all to…
🔵Live fully in the moment
🔵Don’t let the past define you
🔵Go “all in” on loving people
🔵Above all else…Be kind
187 days is not a lot but it also feels like a lifetime. She’s been swimming, made new friends, gone on hikes. had adventures and loved every second. Only a dog like Tina could have an impact like she has in such a short space of time.
The sadness hasn’t hit me too hard today. I look around for my shadow and she isn’t there but I’ve been getting ready for this day for weeks. My main feeling is relief for Tina that it all ended so well. That she didn’t suffer at all. That she felt endless love and warmth from many people when she was drifting off.
Tina could easily have been a street dog in Thailand tied to a chain that died alone months ago. Instead she was a wonderful creature that will have a huge lasting legacy.
After I put the flowers on Tina’s grave this morning and went off driving around feeding the street dogs, I could feel the sun on my back warmer than I’d felt it in months. I saw a beautiful blue butterfly flying on the wind. The sea looked the most aquamarine I’ve ever seen it. That warm sun, gentle wind and beautiful sea are all Tina. She is everywhere now.
Tina never asked for anything but I think she would have one wish we could all follow in her honour. To be kind. Maybe this weekend let someone ahead of you in a line. Check in on a friend you know might need it. Send someone flowers. Drop a note into a needy hand instead of a coin. Take a friend out for a surprise brunch. Play with your dogs a little longer than normal. Maybe just be kind to yourself and go for a walk and enjoy the fresh air. The thought of nice things happening all over the world in Tina’s name would be a lovely one.
In a world where you can be anything…Be more like Tina.
Broken hearted but big love to you all.
Niall 🙏🥰

When you see something like this, don't be afraid, don't call the firefighters or the police, don't move and don't kill them. These are just bees traveling and stopping for just 24 hours.
Don't disturb them and avoid getting close to them, they won't hurt you.
If you want to help, put a flat plate or tray with some sugar water.
Bees will eat, gain energy and fly away.
We all need to protect migratory bees, they are our survival insurance.
Without bees, there will be no humans on earth. 🐝🧡

Not Just Happy Videos - Helping Street Dogs At Massive Scale 🐶✅📈
I’ve stated in the past that this mission is about cutting the number of street dogs in the world by 50% from 500 million down to 250 million. That sounds like a pretty insane statement but as I write this update I can see real progress starting to take shape at scale.
Here are some of the good things happening that I hope to ramp up even faster over the coming months…
56 Dogs Re-Homed 🏡
Re-homing dogs is never going to completely solve the street dog problem but each home feels like a massive win for that individual dog. This week saw Lady and Mick Jagger move into their retirement home with Jamie where he cooked them a steak on arrival and now shares his sofa with them.
Taco was surrendered by his owners during sterilising as they no longer wanted him now that he had grown past puppy stage. He’s so cute that 2 days after arriving he found and traveled to a forever home on the other side of the country.
Over 1000 Dogs Sterilised ✂️
As soon as this mission started I quickly realised that sterilising was the only answer to controlling the population and ending the sufferings dogs see on a daily basis. This time last year I was still driving around getting 1-2 dogs per day myself. Luckily I’ve been able to ramp that up with partners and am continuing to find ways to sterilise more dogs at scale.
🔵1089 Dogs sterilised since starting in mid 2022 (you can see live data here... docs.google.com/spreadsheets…
🔵187 dogs sterilised in July alone
🔵300 Planned for August with more new partners being added
🔵Looking for ways to accelerate this even further from September onwards
You can track the sterilising and where they are all happening on this interactive map...
google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer…
This is the very first stage of rolling out open data (not just for sterilising but lots of other elements). Every dot on this map is a dog sterilised which means possibly 10-20 puppies (or more) not being born into suffering.
168,000 Meals Served This Year 🥘
Every single day of the year there are street dogs getting delivered the very best homemade food. I hand it out to 80 dogs myself and give the rest of the food to volunteers and shelters around the island.
That works out at 800 meals per day and there is no better sight than seeing a street dog walk off with a wagging tail and full belly. One less thing for them to worry about in terms of surviving.
A Global Community Of Dog Lovers 🐶🌎
If I am to really tackle the problem of street dogs globally I can’t do that alone. I’m so blessed with the massive support starting to build both on the ground and around the world.
The impact of this is very hard to measure beyond social media metrics but I have to believe some people (especially children) are being kinder to dogs as a result.
What I love most is that when I log into social media I see dogs who have been re-homed both in Thailand and around the world and their little lives with new families. The support comes in many shapes and sizes but this video of Whacker and his journey sums up that community perfectly for me. An incredible story of joy that should inspire kindness...

Ongoing Welfare of Dozens Of Dogs Each Week 💊
Between the group of people who help we are able to make a difference to so many dogs. Small acts that make a huge difference to individual dogs like…
Getting Mr Floofer groomed. He lives well in the jungle but was suffering in the heat and barely able to see.
Helping Thong pass away as gently as she could. She came to us with only 7 days left to live but she had peace, good medicine, pain relief and a proper burial. For a dog who has lived on the street all their life that little bit of dignity at the end means a lot.
Preventative medicines for dogs to help prevent fleas, ticks, diseases and other small injuries they get on the street.
10 Serious Life Saving Vet Cases In last 2 Weeks 🤒
The hardest part of the mission is stopping to help the very sick dogs along the way. On the one hand it is incredibly important and it feels great helping dogs that could not possibly survive alone. On the other hand these cases are the most time consuming, are massively expensive and the dogs require lots of aftercare. Some examples this week…
🔵Stitch who was crushed by 2 passing cars. After a trip across the country for an operation at Soi Dog and care from my friend Sybille he looks like he will make it despite a broken leg and hip.
🔵Little Fabius who was shot leaving him disabled. We were stunned to find the bullet inside him. We took him off the streets immediately, got him proper care and hope to see him walk again one day soon.
These cases are incredibly common and an important part of animal rescue. It’s clear I need a better system to bring them in and treat the dogs but at the moment we are helping on an a hoc basis as best we can. I have some ideas around how this can scale up soon.
Sometimes when you see so much suffering on the ground you can think “what is the point” or “what difference am I actually making”. For many it can feel like just moving from one sick dog to another and feel utterly hopeless.
I’d be lying if I said I had never felt that. After seeing dogs shot or abused that feeling is normal. What I am also feeling though is a massive sense of purpose and I have total belief in this mission and where is it heading. A follower sent me this quote from Desmond Tutu and I was blown away by how accurate it is…
“There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river.
We need to go upstream and find out why they’re falling in.”
I’m at the stage where I am (metaphorically speaking) slowing making the way up the river. 1000s of dogs are already being saved but with more sterilising, education and community engagement that can change into 10,000s.
As I always say none of this would be possible without your support. I just see myself as the person lucky enough to be trusted to rally people to help the dogs. The real change at scale comes from every single person helping in 1000s of different little ways in both the real world and online.
The important thing is that although still small, real change has started to happen. It might take another 20-30 years but I’ll get there on this mission.
Big Love to you wherever you are in the world this weekend.
