I AM CRYING WTF IS THIS??
It...doesn't teach you anything?? It's just throwing random shapes and lines down. It's a mess. It wants to be step-by-step, but it doesn't know or understand the act of drawing.
Gen AI is dumb af. Look up tutorials from artists.

Saw a guy call it cuck coding instead of vibe coding because you just sit in a chair and watch😭
I think we care too much about how other people produce art (Unless it's AI). Just cause we don't share 100% the same work-flow, doesn't mean one is right and one is wrong. Art is self-expression, and at the end of the day, that's the part I care about.
But even then, if you do wanna trace 3D models from start to finish, you do you. If that's what it takes for you to create something creative, if that's what you need to produce art, go for it. The most important thing is that you start and you keep going.
However, just like those little air-things, I don't think it's healthy to get too attached to it. It's important to not stick 100% to the model, cause then you'll get stiff and same-y looking art. Use it to get the ground-work laid out and then take it from there.
So I'm of the opinion that you can absolutely use 3D models for reference if you want, I will not think any less of you if you do, heck I might even expect you to do so. If you're struggling, if you are intimidated by a pose or an angle or anything like that, go right ahead.
Using a reference just makes it so you can focus all your brain on getting the things you struggle with right. It's like those little air-things you put on your arms as a child when going to the pool. It doesn't make you swim, it just prevents you from drowning.
It wasn't until I had a great talk with some artistic friends, including Jey Odin who let me know that what I was doing was perfectly fine. And as I continued to do it, I could see why they told me that.
This made it so that even using references was something I was legit worried about. But I felt if I had references, my stuff would come out way better and I also figured "Why would there be a 3D model tool in Clip Studio if I'm not supposed to use it?"
When I started doing art for real, I was legit worried about doing it "the right way". I'd spent all this time commenting on tracing art and copying other peoples work on my youtube channel, so I felt I had to be extra careful.
I'm seeing a lot of talking about the use of 3D-models when doing art and how some people shouldn't use it. Here is my cold-as-November-morning take, as someone who's been picking up drawing for the past year, but spent decades commenting on art. 🧵

People are shitting on this person for the usual “artists are entitled!” reasons, but quite frankly if you’re fine the public space being polluted with ugly AI ads and AI generated music, you are human cattle.

Looks like I'm going to be having a small surgery in the next few months (date still unconfirmed). I'll need to recover after, so I hope to have some money saved during that time. I'll be running a 20% discount on all artworks requested through VGEN until next month.
