Just back from a week at Jersey Zoo, lots of lovely things to see, but they've also got tortoises named after a couple of my favourite people.
No sudden movements around Mike please.

Now is a really good time of year to build a #hibernaculum – just when #amphibians and #reptiles are looking for winter homes. Here’s how to do it: ow.ly/WzET50TNyZ3.

Octopuses absolutely blow my mind as a species, just stunning 🤩 🐙
Ok, this is seriously amazing. Not only did our Project Assistant, Ciara spot a curled octopus whilst rockpooling by Menai Bridge, Anglesey, but she also managed to capture it changing colour! 🐙
Check out some great facts about octopuses here:

Witness the moment @RNLIDunLaoghair sprung into action to rescue a young child from the water.

#FarmWildlife_spotlight_species 26: Blackthorn. The benefits of rotational trimming of hedgerows is most obvious in March. Blackthorn that was not cut last winter will be flowering from now, when there is little else flowering at this time of year for early emerging pollinators🧵
We have 8 years of continuous monitoring survey results for our nature reserve @chesterzoo & we couldn’t do it without the expertise of the @RECORDLRC team ✨

Great news indeed. A reminder of what nature recovery can be achieved but also that this data/research is underpinned by many volunteers (citizen science) Excellent species ID & taxonomic skills are an essential component. Charities such as @RECORDLRC are fundamental to this:
The River Mersey has been described as "the greatest river recovery in Europe". Read more here: bbc.in/3w7kb7U
So much amazing work being delivered by LWT, this site and their others including the greater Manchester wetlands are making giant leaps in terms of landscape recovery:

Why do I not find puppies in need of help on my runs?!
Well done once again to @Channel4News for reporting this and for showing the footage captured by those brave enough to follow the hunts. This takes place up and down the country & it’s high time it came to an end #foxhunts #huntingUK #WildlifeCrime
Since visiting Knepp last year and hearing about this research it’s great to be able to finally see the published results:
Study at @KneppWilding indicates more #carbon is stored belowground in scrubland than current models predict – methods to calculate storage in these habitats need further refinement!
