TIL there's a term called "diglossia" which essentially means in some languages you don't read and write the same way you speak. Makes so much sense as to why Cantonese lyrics or news broadcasts are so difficult to comprehend as it's based on a more standard form of Chinese. 🤯

My partner's mother, whom I just met two days ago, has texted me "love you + miss you" more than my own mother has in the last year. I do not resent my parents for not verbally expressing their love, it's not their thing, but hearing it from a motherly figure sure does feel nice.
