There is a direct link between domestic abuse and animal abuse and our much-loved pets are the reason why so many people cannot leave the abuse.
But did you know that there's support available to keep you and your beloved pets safe?

A new campaign by the Naturewatch Foundation is highlighting the link between those who abuse animals and their use of violence against people; former detective inspector Mark Randell, the charity’s Campaign Manager, spoke to Policing Insight’s Sarah Gibbons about the need for training for officers and prosecutors around that link, and the organisation’s efforts to encourage data sharing and raise awareness of the need to consider animal cruelty when investigating other cases.

Thank you for your time yesterday and for your insight into how violence against animals and #VAWG are linked.
“We know those who harm animals also harm people and, if we apply that knowledge to safeguarding strategies, we can reduce overall violent crime. By protecting animals, we can make people safer too.” Great to meet up with @JessBrownFuller yesterday to talk about #VAWG prevention
“Abusers understand the special bond that exists between a person and a pet. Targeting that relationship is one way they can coercively control, in the same way they cut their victim off from their family, friends, financial independence.”
Protect animals. Protect people.
