This #WorldPolioDay and every day, Africa is making progress towards a polio-free future!
🌍 From January to September 2026, 168M+ children were vaccinated, and polio detections in the region have declined by 33% since 2024. But rising detections of poliovirus types 1 and 3 remind us that the fight is not over.
Stronger surveillance, faster response and sustained commitment are essential to protecting every child.

Follow-up care for Ebola survivors is an essential part of any Ebola outbreak response. After discharge from treatment centres, survivors need continued physical and psychosocial support, provided through dedicated survivor follow-up clinics.
With support from @OCHAFunds and @FCDOGovUK, @WHO has helped establish the first two clinics, in Bunia and Beni.

Universal Health Coverage (#UHC) isn't just about what's written into a policy or benefits package. For people living with diabetes, hypertension, cancer and other noncommunicable diseases (#NCDs), it means getting the care they need without financial hardship.
That was the focus of the Financing Accelerator Network for NCDs (FAN) Learning Workshop in Accra, #Ghana (August 19-20, 2026), which brought together country delegation and technical stakeholders from Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia and Uganda, to examine how NCD services, medicines and diagnostics can be effectively integrated into UHC
Key takeaways:
🔹 Integration must be system-wide
🔹 Evidence drives investment
🔹 Health and finance need a shared table
🔹 Countries learn faster together
The Accra workshop combined country experience, practical integration clinics, a political economy discussion and a site visit to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The real measure of progress is at the point of people accessing care, from prevention through long-term management, when and where they need it, without being pushed into financial hardship.
