See the difference between a clear air over Madison and a blanket of wildfire smoke through the lens of the @UW_AOS rooftop cameras.
One of the scientists in our building put together this good air/bad air comparison from the east facing AOSS rooftop camera. Just wow.. #wiwx #swiwx @NWSMilwaukee

Nice new touch to the Lake Mendota shoreline, @UWMadison @WisconsinUnion

Are you a limnologist working on stratified lakes? Then surely you read or used stability metrics like Schmidt stability to quantify how stratified the water column is? But did you ever wonder what they really tell us and how they were developed in the first place?

Heavy spring rains and warm temperatures have created ideal conditions for the unsightly, toxic algae blooms, as well as weeds. madison.com/news/local/envir…
Can confirm that Lake Mendota is currently gross.
If you process the #Sentinel2 image differently, you can see bright blue (turquoise) at the north of the lake, as well as by Spring Harbor. Dying scums of cyanobacteria? Calcium carbonate precipitation?
Satellites are cool.
On-going bloom in Lake Mendota, Wisconsin as captured in the recent #Sentinel2 scene. @WDNR

Been a little obsessed lately with mapping in crochet. Here’s bathymetry for Lake Mendota in worsted weight wool and acrylic. Each stitch roughly equals 300 sq meters, and each layer represents a depth change of 10 meters. #gischat
Congrats to @WiscLimnology alum Elena Bennett (@ElenaBennett) on your inducted into the National Academy of Sciences.
It's inspiring that our current grad students have such incredible role models. Although maybe we take that too far...
The foxes agree the (public) golf course should be a city park.
So when Glenway Golf Course in Madison was redesigned, the greens were built with a base of sand, not dirt. And that drew the foxes, who love to dig in sand. Three of the fox found themselves in a study on translocation by the @UWCanidProject. madison.com/news/local/foxes…
