We're hiring in London and California! Fun team to be in, too! Consider applying if you would like working across the pre-training stack!
The Gemini Large Scale Pretrain team is hiring a Research Engineer in London or MTV! The team works across the pretrain stack: research codebases, distributed training infra, data pipelines, tooling for training dynamics analysis, and most importantly using Gemini to accelerate our work! 🚀 If you're an engineer who has a strong "whatever it takes" attitude and is not afraid of spending tokens, apply here with some showcase work: google.com/about/careers/app… No particular qualifications needed, and we welcome early career applicants. Join if you want me to bug you with refactors to enable [new AGI compute multiplier]! 👀

🇺🇦 Doing what we can to help Ukraine: raise funds, run the Freedom Run 10k... 👉(if you can) vote in the American mid-term election 🇺🇸🗳️ If Ukraine falls, it will be British, European and American soldiers next. Putin won't stop. Donate here: freedomrun.uk/donate
Since the American President announced the energy ceasefire a week ago, Russia has deliberately attacked Ukraine’s energy and oil and gas sectors 76 times. Last night alone, there were strikes on substations in the Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, and Odesa regions. Tens of thousands of families remain without power. Energy workers and repair crews are working virtually around the clock to restore electricity supply. Overnight, the Russians also struck residential buildings in our regions. As of now, 12 people have been reported injured, including two children. Two people have been killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. This morning, there was a strike on an agricultural enterprise in Volyn. All necessary services are working at the site. In total, over this past week, the Russians have attacked Ukraine with almost 2,700 attack drones, 1,700 aerial bombs, and 66 missiles, most of them ballistic. The main targets of these strikes are energy facilities – the Russians are trying to cause a blackout. And America should see that Russia is not taking any reciprocal steps in response to sanctions relief or agreements. On the contrary, they take every signal of an opportunity to make money as proof that their bet on war is paying off and they can keep fighting. It is because of this position of Russia’s that the war continues, not because Ukraine is rightfully defending itself. It is Russia that must face pressure for peace to have a chance. Thank you to everyone who understands this and helps.

Maybe if the Tesla has LiDARs this would not have happened?
A self-driving Tesla crashed into a California highway patrol vehicle, seriously injuring two officers inside. According to the officers, the driver said he was asleep at the time and using the car’s driver-assistance technology.

Amazing to see research move from the lab to real-world clinical utility - congrats to the team on this milestone & @TheLancet paper!
Today @TheLancet published our AMIE study with @BIDMC_Medicine, the first prospective study of patient-facing conversational diagnostics in a real clinic. AMIE is a research system people can chat with before doctors appointments. Testing AMIE outside the lab with real urgent care patients showed how technology can help gather medical histories safely. Clinicians reported that the summaries helped them prepare for visits in 75% of cases and influenced their approach to care in more than half. AMIE’s differential diagnoses also matched the doctors’ final diagnoses 90% of the time giving clinicians more time to focus on patient care. It’s Google’s first-ever paper in The Lancet’s main journal!

Fun fact: Google TPU already do this. Our current generation Ironwood pod is 9,216 accelerators with 1.8 PB HBM in 144 racks. You can have multiple pods in a single cluster and then scale up from cluster -> campus -> metro -> multi-metro.😊
Some interesting conversations here at OCP with AI infra folks on if we can get to true scale up/out compute domains sooner than later if that alleviates the race to GPU/XPU density per rack. Meaning maybe we don’t need to try and get to ~500 gpus per rack.

Great results from an exceptional model. A great example of the positive impact of AI. This is why we at @GoogleDeepMind make advancing science a core focus!
Google Deepmind (FNV3) CRUSHED the forecast for #Isaias up to 11 days in advance. It picked up some appreciable signal on September 23, locked in on the exact landfall location4 days before it happened, and nailed the peak intensity consistently 3 days before it happened. A new age of forecasting is upon us. First video: Track density using 1000 member ensemble Second Video: Individual tracks and mean using 50 member ensemble

Finally some levelling of the playing field between San Francisco and London. This is fantastic for London and the UK.🇬🇧💪 The question now is how soon can we get this done.

I find it odd watching armchair critics rush to nitpick @MistralAI’s plans or obsess over whether they’re #1 on every leaderboard. Having a team with this level of conviction building frontier models and AI infrastructure in France—and punching so far above their weight relative to hyperscaler resources—is incredible. Building in the arena is hard. Anybody who actually tries knows. We should be rooting for them, and I have huge respect for what they’re building in France 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷—keep it up!

“In a three-month randomized controlled trial with practicing patent attorneys, we found that, while routinely using AI lifts work quality across the board, its effects on on-the-job learning depend on seniority: senior lawyers who used AI for 90 days demonstrate stronger judgment than those who didn’t, whereas junior lawyers show no average skill gain, their scores splitting into more strong scores and more low scores.”
Today we announce new findings from Visiting Fellow David Autor on how AI impacts how professionals build expertise. In a three-month randomized controlled trial with practicing patent attorneys, we test both short-term productivity & longer-term skill building that occur as a result of AI usage. Very sorry to hear this news. 😥 I never had the chance to meet Margaret Hamilton, but her contributions to the flight software that got us to the moon are legendary. I love this image of her standing next to the printouts of the Apollo code.
We’ve lost an icon. Margaret Hamilton, a computer science pioneer best known for her work at MIT leading development of the flight software for the Apollo missions to the moon, has died at 90. Read about her legacy via MIT News: news.mit.edu/2026/margaret-h…

Imagine @Reuters setting up a live cam in Afghanistan on the anniversary of 9/11 and tweeted it out. This is what they are doing to Israel. I remember the Hamas terrorists killing, raping and abducting civilians on October 7th. On this day, I am with Israel.💙
