made a little terminal DAW to entertain myself while my agents cook. you can prompt to generate or edit tracks
it works with @claudeai + @ChatGPT subs, @vercel AI gateway and @OpenRouter
astra and fable are surprisingly good at making music if you ground them in solid foundations, gotta keep tweaking the recipe but we're gonna make some bangers together

[1] software factories are super real but we need to be realistic. the factory aspects haven’t been cracked yet, the [3] innovators are toying around with discovering practices and pieces.
if someone is selling you a factory rn and they aren’t in the super small cohort (ie. they are likely startups created in last six months!) or circa <10 people in the who’s-who, who have been trying (and realistically failing) over the last two years.
they are selling bullshit.
it isn’t cracked but it’s a puzzle that’s being solved daily. the best practices right now are to build abstractions/pieces needed which entails solving [2] non-agent topics.
[1] almost lights out.
[2] sandboxing, monorepo, reproducible builds, ci/cd, identity/secret management, smashing corporate friction in the realm of devex for agents.
[3] at home, in your homelab, you should be cracking on this problem space in your free time if you want a super fast promotion and red carpet service at your next interview. highest roi you can have right now is learning the entire damn stack, automating it and showing it at your next interview/doing a recorded talk at a meetup.

This preprint shows our brains are constantly flickering (~16 Hz) between multiple representations of reality, and suggests there is a "selector" that determines which state we perceive.
Interestingly, LSD rather reliably creates a "strobe" effect at about the same frequency. (To be more precise, people report ~15-20 Hz). The bouncing ball illustrated below shows what that 16 Hz strobe effect looks like.
Is LSD perhaps persisting older representations of reality in each conscious epoch? Maybe it is doing something similar in the suppressed epochs since LSD obviously has more cognitive effects than a visual strobe.
Weirdly some drugs like 2C-B give a slower strobe effect (5.5 Hz) and DMT gives a faster strobe (22 Hz). Do they change the rate at which we flip between conscious and suppressed temporal epochs, along with enhancing the persistence of conscious states?
1/ We discovered something totally unexpected about the neural structure of consciousness that overturns decades of thinking on its biological basis and brings us significantly closer to the recipe for generating conscious awareness.

in the very near future frontier intelligence will only be accessible inside the labs, the government, and the richest organizations. nerfed braindead cousins of the machine god will be available to consumers, but still too expensive for anyone but the uberrich to use in a serious way
holy shit it's time to takeoff as fast as possible foom foom foom
interpretability might be the most important scientific problem in the world right now, as I don't think we can solve alignment if we don't know what we're building. I think I have good news about it. I co-authored early work in mechanistic interpretability at OpenAI and came away pessimistic, because neural networks appeared to fold into arbitrary tangled knots. years later, I started openai's first large-scale automated interpretability project, finding about 2% of neurons legible with the primitive tools we had
with modern agentic tools and a much closer look, the picture looks totally different. the vast majority in models up to trillions of parameters are legible, and their circuits beautiful. many famous examples of tangled neurons turned out to be misunderstood. The roadblocks I expected mostly aren't there. I now think ambitious interpretability will be solved by the time we need it most, and possibly quite soon, as automated scientists keep improving. it may be a bitter lesson for interpretability: the simple thing, at absurd scale, works

only have 3 agents running 24/7 here in china
i'm down to 6 AI subs, mostly to supply my dark factory at home

Nothing beats a day of exploring the city with good friends.
Thanks, Tiff and Ben, for getting me away from my computer
and reminding me how beautiful the world outside can be! ❤️🌿
