In my opinion, chain-of-thought is the poor man's version of the real thing but it may suffice with the insane flops we now have at our disposal.

12 yo is thinking of ditching his current Animal Crossing island and starting over. He's done this several times before. He says this time he's not going to rush through the early parts. I told him that this is a good plan for life too.

after LLMs have made it 20 times faster to write code, it became 20 times more important to make your devloop extremely, extremely tight

I’m 53 — I pick up a new major specialization every ten years. This is the decade of AI for me.

i don't want samantha from her. I want john carmack on amphetamines speaking to me at the maximum possible bitrate that i can manage, skipping unecessary "uh"s and emotions meant for meatbased slop bots

smartphones are incredible and I use mine everyday, glad that our generation 1 product even has a chance against a $457.18 billion industry we capture even 1% of that and we win @Humane if we keep people more present in their lives we win✌️

Expressing yourself well compounds. You don't just understand your current ideas better. You're also more likely to have the new ideas that follow from them.

Of all potential longterm negative outcomes for humanity I find the “degrowth, fight over scraps, and entertain ourselves to death” to be most likely. In fact, the memeplex behind this outcome is so potent that it might be the default path today.

One of the reasons AI is so significant: Can you think of any other technology that, within 4 months its release, had so many use cases, for free, for a billion+ people? I was part of the early Internet (ran a startup then, too). It took much longer to become generally useful.
The New York Times articles giving ideas for how to use AI to get stuff done is good. I love the way they condensed our conversation. nytimes.com/interactive/2023… (The button works great by the way)

Bought this macbook from doing bounties on @Replit. Bounties are a ton of fun, also lots of great bounty hunters on the site, all eager to build.

Carmack’s description of AGI is super reasonable and seems doable.

2010s: - tech bloat - fund first, ship later - slow to build new products/features 2020s: - build/ship fast - streamlined workflows with AI - marketplaces to ship quickly @replit Exciting decade in front of us
This is wilder than I even imagined it to be!
