Social media has fried people so completely that they have forgotten the point of everything. Relationships are now about the aesthetics of power dynamics, and the appearance of being “done right” rather than two people attempting to have a unit and family. Deeply disturbing.
I guess I just wonder what we’re doing if every economy “can’t function” without second class citizens that are kept in a sort of psuedo-legal limbo. Like if that’s the limiting input, something is being done incorrectly, just on a systems level.
A one-stoplight TX town got in bed with ICE for $$ and started pulling over every other car and detaining Hispanics. 10% of the town is gone now, and businesses are struggling. The town cop has to look over his shoulder in public now.

I worked with someone that loved this book, huge superfan of Bob Knight. She was as neurotic as you’re imagining. Then she died. There’s a lesson there.
Y2K was only ever a problem because engineers are stupid, and they created a massive problem for no reason. Don’t ever let Y2K truthers act like the massive failures of the engineering field can be excused, or that they were unavoidable. Y2K was a choice.
When you run the numbers, Y2K was about 10 times worse than 9/11.
Solving it cost an absurdly large amount of skilled labor; the equivalent of a single engineer working on it for about 2 million years. The economic cost is about ⅓ of a trillion dollars in today's money. Converted into lives that's about 30,000 lives lost.
It seems like it was a nothingburger, but that's an illusion caused by people's scope insensitivity.
Penalizing people who predicted that Y2K would be a big deal is midwit behavior.
The seething over the new AirBnB “you have to do some work” owner policy is incredible. Watching these parasites freak out that they can’t have the best of both hospitality and real estate with none of the drawbacks, it’s delectable.
Running the dishwasher and taking the trash out isn't hard. It's the courteous thing to do. Neither is allowed under this change. FWIW, running the dishwasher is so it's finished by the time the cleaners arrive and they can put things away. Don't be upset when you can't check in early, when there are clean dishes in the dishwasher the next time you stay somewhere, or when the cleaning fee (now part of the total cost) goes up because of this.
This is entirely true. Gen X gives me more vicarious embarrassment than even the boomers.

And GenX still thinks they're edgy 22 year olds when they're actually pushing 50.
and yet computers can beat the best humans 100% of the time, and this has always been the bar, and automated people don’t accept that the machine doesn’t have to be perfect (impossible), it just has to be better than them (easy)
One thing about small businesses is that the hierarchy of work is very much at play, and matters more than critical business decisions. What this means is that individual time preference/leisure is often considered before trivialities such as revenue and expenses.
Women have a unique threat landscape, men present the greatest physical danger, while women present the greatest mental danger.
