Here we go. This is a screenshot of Turnitin's AI Writing Detection tool. It's a little blue box labeled "AI" which has a percentage between 0 and 100. That's it. That's all instructors have to go on.
This is nothing more than an algorithmic suspicion score. It's not teaching.

ALT Screenshot of Turnitin Feedback Studio. An essay called "The Goliath of the Sea" is displayed with an image of a Blue Whale's tail. The second paragraph of the essay is highlighted in red to indicate possible plagiarism. A red box labeled "Match Overview" reads "63%". This box has a description: "Similarity score - separate and independent of the AI indicator". Next to the essay, a blue box is labeled "AI" and reads "75%". This box has a description: "New AI Indicator". "When you launch the Similarity report you will be presented with the new AI indicator in the side panel The indicator shows an overall percentage of the document that AI writing tools, such as ChatGPT, may have generated - 75% in this case" Turnitin logo
