UPDATE ON DELSU FEE INCREMENT I have just had a conversation with the management of Delta State University (DELSU), through the Dean of Student Affairs, and I have been informed that the university is not increasing its fees. According to the information made available to me, the issue arose from an error on the school portal. Consequently, the management has suspended the payment portal until all errors are thoroughly verified and corrected. I therefore appeal to all DELSU students to remain calm and avoid unnecessary panic as the management works to resolve the issue. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Thanks NANS PRESIDENT

GUO LOGISTICS MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE DEATHS OF FIVE STUDENTS Yesterday, along the Ijebu–Epe Road, a GUO Logistics truck reportedly left its lane and collided with a bus travelling in the opposite direction. According to the information made available to me, the bus was conveying students from Gombe to Lagos in search of Industrial Training (IT) placements. Tragically, five of these young Nigerians lost their lives instantly. They are: 1. Isiyaku Sa’idu 2. Maigana Mohammed (Abbati) 3. Anas Abubakar (Driver) 4. Zaiyanu Bajoga 5. Abubakar Ibrahim What makes this tragedy even more disturbing are reports about the conduct of GUO Logistics representatives at the scene. Rather than showing compassion to the victims and their families, the company’s management allegedly appeared more concerned about protecting its corporate image, with one of its staff reportedly attempting to erase the company’s name from the truck. As of the time of this statement, we have not received information confirming that the company has reached out to the families of the deceased or taken adequate responsibility for the injured victims receiving treatment in the hospital, who are reportedly at risk of being abandoned. This is unacceptable! Human lives must matter more than corporate reputation. As we gather further information about this tragic incident, we will communicate our findings and the actions we intend to take to the public. GUO Logistics must answer serious questions about this incident. The families of the deceased deserve justice, the injured deserve adequate medical care, and those affected deserve accountability. The lives lost cannot be brought back, but we must ensure that the circumstances surrounding their deaths are thoroughly investigated and that responsibility is established. No company should be allowed to place its reputation above the lives and dignity of innocent Nigerians. NANS PRESIDENT. BABTEE.

You want students who can now afford to go to school because of NELFUND to vote against the man who introduced the initiative, without presenting a clear plan for how your candidate intends to do better for them. Beyond insulting people who hold different opinions, what concrete education policies are you communicating to Nigerians? What exactly will your candidate do differently to improve access to education and student welfare beyond what the present government is already doing? Criticism is easy, presenting a better alternative is what matters. If your candidate has a better plan for Nigerian students, let us hear it!

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS (NANS) 28 October 2026 PRESS RELEASE NANS SLAMS AAU MANAGEMENT OVER MCB 414 EXAMINATION CANCELLATION, DEMANDS IMMEDIATE REVERSAL The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has been inundated with several complaints over the decision of the management of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, to cancel the MCB 414 examination, which therefore implies that every Microbiology student in the University will automatically have an extra year. As contained in the management's publication, the reason for such cruelty is a result of the violation of the Senate's extant rule on wild jubilation by final-year students. It is rather unfortunate to see the management of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, make such a vile decision. This is unacceptable. As the apex student representative body, what baffles us the most is the rationale behind the decision to cancel an examination over wild jubilation, that is, if the students were involved in one to begin with. From our unbiased fact-finding, the affected final-year Microbiology students were not at any point involved in a riotous celebration. Despite that, these students have appealed to the management to reconsider its decision rather than make over 300 students resit the examination and ultimately stay back for an extra year. It is so disheartening to see that the management has been rigid and unyielding in its inhumane judgement. You cannot set over 300 students on the path to an extra year and keep their lives in abeyance over an unfounded claim that they were involved in wild jubilation after their examination. In a saner clime, this is a joke taken too far by the management. While the students were not involved in examination malpractice and have hitherto maintained that they did not participate in any riotous celebration, we reject the decision of the management to cancel the MCB 414 examination. Students who are due to graduate from the University cannot be made to stay back for another session over an unfounded and illogical claim. Therefore, we call on the management of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, to immediately rescind its decision to cancel the examination. There is no justification for the cancellation. What is evident here is the abuse of power by the authorities to impede the lives of over 300 students. This cruelty cannot stand, and it does not have a place in our institutions. Onward, we shall continue to speak for Nigerian students and remain firmly opposed to every form of oppression and intimidation of our students at all levels. As a body, we shall continue to advocate for, protect, and advance the interests of Nigerian students, ensuring that their rights, welfare, and future are not compromised by decisions that undermine their well-being. Signed: Dist. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, GCNS President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)

Everyone wants to have an opinion on NELFUND. Instead of gaslighting NELFUND beneficiaries, why not focus on what your preferred candidate intends to do better in the education sector? The truth is that NELFUND is a success story for Nigerian students, and its impact is widely appreciated by beneficiaries. We can always discuss areas for improvement without discrediting a programme that has given many students hope and the opportunity to remain in school.

Cubana Chief Priest’s attack on David Umahi appears more like a personal vendetta than an objective assessment of reality. Umahi is undoubtedly one of the finest ministers from the South-East and one of the strongest promoters of PBAT’s administration. He deserves accolades, not attacks!

This is a typical failed journalism… Don’t know why many of you always want to share fake news or lies about NELFUND
Hello Rufai, NELFUND is a laudable economic policy of the Tinubu administration but its implementation has created sorrowing, anguish and tears for many students. Many students now see NELFUND as a poisoned chalice and avoid it as a plague. Below is a message from a student that sought for my help for school fees and I asked her to get it from NELFUND. NELFUND is still ON. When I was in 200 level, I applied for NELFUND with a few other students in my department. Unfortunately, the experience was terrible. Even after applying, we still had to pay some money, and the whole process came with a lot of stress. During examinations, we faced difficulties writing our exams alongside other students. When the results were released, some of us who applied for NELFUND could not find our results. Now that I have entered 400 level, some of us NELFUND beneficiaries in our 200 level are still rewriting certain 200-level courses because our results were not released alongside those other students whose  parents paid their school fees. I still have one 200-level exam to rewrite because of this issue. The most painful part is that whenever we have to rewrite these exams, we must buy the textbooks again and go through the entire process all over. Honestly, the NELFUND experience has been stressful and discouraging due to what we went through, and I don't think anybody in my department will still apply for it. Due to NELFUND scare, I did not register for NELFUND in my 300 level. I was able to join some people who hired workers to cook food for events, and I saved the money I earned to pay my 300 level school fees then. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find that kind of work again this year to pay my 400 level school fees and I need your help. 😭 NELFUND is a big NO NO for me. I know things are very difficult everywhere now. Please help if you can. Pat

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS (NANS) 18 October 2026 PRESS RELEASE NANS DECRIES SCHOOL FEES HIKE AT ALEX EKWUEME FEDERAL UNIVERSITY; DEMANDS IMMEDIATE REVERSAL The attention of the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has been drawn to the reported increase in school fees at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State. This reported increase is insensitive, unjustifiable, and unacceptable, particularly at a time when Nigerian students are already grappling with the harsh economic realities confronting the country. This cruelty is capable of frustrating the academic aspirations of countless Nigerian students. To be clear, education cannot be commercialised. Students cannot be made to pay for the financial challenges confronting our universities. As much as universities require adequate funding, the Federal Government is investing heavily in education to keep students in school and ensure that education is accessible to all, regardless of their background and financial status. Thus, if universities need additional funding, managements, especially Vice-Chancellors, must be ready to think outside the box and explore innovative ways of generating revenue without placing additional burdens on students. The Federal Government has also established the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as part of its efforts to expand access to education. University managements must therefore refrain from increasing tuition fees arbitrarily on the assumption that NELFUND is available to pay students' tuition. Rather, managements must explore alternative revenue-generating avenues without placing additional financial burdens on students or stretching them beyond their limits. Going forward, we wish to make it clear to the Vice-Chancellor and the entire University Management that the National Leadership of NANS will not stand by while Nigerian students are subjected to policies capable of pushing them out of school. We cannot afford to fold our arms and watch the future of Nigerian students being threatened by an unjustifiable increase in the cost of education. To this end, we call on the management of Alex Ekwueme Federal University to immediately reverse the reported tuition increment and return the fees to the affordable and reasonable level that existed before the increment. Otherwise, we will mobilise the National Secretariat of NANS to Alex Ekwueme Federal University and shut down the school until the fee is reversed. We remain committed to defending the interests, welfare, and aspirations of Nigerian students. We shall continue to speak firmly against policies that place unnecessary and unbearable burdens on Nigerian students. Signed: Dist. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, GCNS President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)

September 2022, together with other fellow comrades, we shut down different expressways across the Southwest, including the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, over the prolonged ASUU strike. We were driven by conviction, frustrated by the eight months we had spent at home, and tired of living with an uncertain academic future. That is what an ASUU strike means. That is the kind of stress we have to go through to ensure that the strike is called off. So, when you see comrades celebrating the news that ASUU will not be embarking on another strike, understand that it is because they know how rigorous and exhausting the struggle can be whenever ASUU goes on strike. They also understand the criticism, insults, and name-calling that student leaders face from students who expect them to find an immediate solution to the crisis. We know what it means to lead from the front, to mobilise, to protest, and to endure the pressure that comes with fighting for the future of Nigerian students. May Nigeria continue to get better than what we used to have. 💯💯

NANS GIVES NEURO-PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL ABEOKUTA 24 HOURS TO UNRAVEL CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING DEATH OF A NIGERIAN STUDENT OR FACE MASSIVE PROTEST Our attention has been drawn to a deeply disturbing incident at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, where an asthmatic student of the institution allegedly lost his life amid reports of inadequate medical facilities and equipment, as well as serious concerns about the competence of the medical personnel who attended to him. This development is alarming and raises serious questions about patient safety, emergency medical response, and the standard of healthcare delivery at a prominent federal health institution in Ogun State. Consequently, NANS Ogun JCC hereby gives the management of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, 24 HOURS to publicly explain the circumstances surrounding the death of the student and clarify the medical attention he received before his demise. We consider this a matter of urgent public concern that must not be treated with indifference or swept under the carpet. We therefore call on the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), relevant security agencies, and appropriate medical regulatory authorities to immediately investigate the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is held accountable in accordance with the law. Furthermore, we demand an independent autopsy review to establish the medical cause of death and determine whether any act of negligence or failure in medical care contributed to this tragic incident. The process must be conducted by qualified professionals, with appropriate consent and in accordance with the law, to ensure transparency and credibility. We also call on the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, to urgently intervene and ensure that the matter receives the attention it deserves. Should the hospital management fail to provide a satisfactory explanation within the stipulated 24 hours, NANS Ogun JCC will consider mobilising Nigerian students across the Gateway State for a massive protest at the facility in demand of transparency, accountability, and justice. We further demand an urgent assessment of the hospital’s medical facilities, emergency response capacity, and the professional qualifications of personnel responsible for patient care. Any established deficiencies must be addressed immediately to prevent a recurrence of this tragic incident. Let it be unequivocally stated that the life of a Nigerian student matters, and allegations surrounding the circumstances of his death deserve immediate answers. We will pursue this matter through every appropriate channel until the truth is established and justice is pursued. Signed: Comr. OLABODE FARUQ (SUCCESS) Chairman, NANS Ogun JCC 07043767136 [email protected]
