During my campaign I’ve been speaking about a need for us to once again build a close knit community and restore the Village so I thank everyone who stopped by at our get together to do just that.
Come vibe with #5 all this week as we countdown to the polls. 🇻🇮
My 83 year old mother Anita Bailey voted for the first time ever today and her sister my Aunt Hyacinth was there to support. God is good.
🇻🇮
I’ve been asking folks to meet me at the polls on August 1st, but until then you can meet at the pump at our campaign headquarters at Petrus Gas in Barbel Plaza.

One thing made clear at this week’s Democratic Senatorial Forum is the need to restore the Village and sense of community in our islands. It’s why my campaign supporters represent a cross-section of Virgin Islanders. From elders to millennials, our movement includes former lawmakers, healthcare professionals, small business owners, professional athletes and everyday private citizens impassioned about taking ownership of our community’s story. It’s because we once dreamed in these islands where greatness is a birthright and being legendary yet unassuming is the VI way. I remember how after Irmaria we gave each other light when the rest of the world left us in darkness. Hence, as stated at the forum, my plans aren’t to bask in nostalgia, but to implement initiatives to resurrect our belief in self while reinventing the present to ensure future sustained success:
- Creating an office with grant writers assigned to each government agency to maximize federal dollars to bolster entrepreneurship, healthcare and local infrastructure
- Rebrand our tourism industry utilizing local content creators and train locals to become hotel executives
- Expansion of vocational and apprenticeship programs for our youth led by a global network of VI industry professionals
- Creation of the territory’s first film and media school
- Expansion of the Office of Gun Violence Prevention to include mental health services, art programs and intramural sports
I’m proud to say these aren’t mere ideas, but work I’ve already began and look forward to continuing as Senator so I’m asking for your vote as candidate #5 in the August 1st Democratic Primary. Visit ElectPeterBailey.com to learn about our journey to the polls.

Destiny has a way of speaking to us through others while guiding us to our purpose as shared by this journalist who attended my screening of #ParadiseDiscovered #TheUnbreakableVirginIslanders at #Toronto’s CaribbeanTales International Film Festival where the film won for best documentary. In fact, his insight was a recurring theme shared by many I met during this historic tour where I screened the film at dozens of universities and institutions throughout the North America. Now visit ElectPeterBailey.com to see why I chose to listen and make sure you register by July 2nd to vote for me in the August 1st Democratic Primary. 🇻🇮🇨🇦
As I’ve previously stated on WSTA and elsewhere our islands are witnessing an intergenerational shift as our parents transition to becoming elders leaving my generation tasked with the responsibility of being caregivers.
I like many Virgin Islanders understand the gravity of this shift and the all consuming weight that nearly crushed me when my mother Anita Bailey suffered a stroke almost two years ago in the very garden which in my opinion helped to save her life. My mother spent years healing this community as a former nurse, but our healthcare system lacked the necessary resources to fully aid in her recovery so she had to be airlifted to Miami for treatment.
It’s why my Senate campaign is focused on addressing this defining chapter in our history which I call #TheBridge as my generation is arguably the first who left the territory in such large numbers to the US mainland for opportunity, but now find ourselves trying to add to a society reluctant to change and rightfully so given our colonial history. Nevertheless, our future will inevitably depend on how those of us returning with advanced skills and know-how will be utilized to help advance the territory as opposed to being seen as a threat to the established local hierarchy’s grasp on power.
Each night while my mother was in rehab I peered outside the window to observe the train that traversed downtown Miami while reflecting on the city’s transformation which I documented first as a writer for the Miami Herald then took part in shaping as a grant award recipient from The Knight Foundation. With bold plans to make Miami the new Silicon Valley, the Foundation invested in my NiteCap Media company to tell the stories of the Tech entrepreneurs and initiatives they were supporting. Hence, in a matter of years I saw The Knight Foundation reinvent an entire city.
Yet, each year millions in federal money meant to aid in building infrastructure, schools, healthcare and bolster the #USVI’s economy somehow rarely ever reaches our people. Hence, as Senator I’m focused on creating an office to maximize federal dollars and grant money by aiding our local people in drafting proposals and creating programs rooted in self-sustainability like - community gardens.
As someone who grew up eating off the land, doctors who didn’t think my mother would ever walk again credit her “miraculous” recovery to her lifestyle and diet so I plan to utilize parcels of vacant land for community gardens in which farmers teach our next generation the importance of growing their own food all the while helping to curb the high cost of imports.
Now at the age of 82 my mother will be voting for the first time ever to support my candidacy which you can call a disruption to the status quo as I haven’t worked in local government. However, I consider this “newness” to be my superpower.
