At this point Iโd rather be where the monsters live.
Theyโre less dangerous than people.

The Last Reader
They say the Archive was built to remember everything.
For a thousand years, the scribes fed it. Every confession, every decree, every lie told softly enough to become truth. They wrote until their fingers bled ink, and the pages piled up until they became pillars, and the pillars held up the sky. People forgot how to speak without consulting the shelves. Nobody remembered why. Nobody asked.
She was the last one born inside its walls.
They wrapped her at birth, the way they wrapped everyone: strips torn from the oldest volumes, bound tight around her arms, her ribs, her throat. This is who you are, the strips said. This is what you owe. This is what you will never be. Her motherโs name was written on her wrist, and her motherโs grief on her spine. Across her mouth they laid the law of silence, in a script so old that no one alive could read it.
She grew inside the words like a seed grows inside a stone.
By the time the scribes died, one by one, choking on dust, she no longer knew where the paper ended and her skin began. Her face had dissolved into thread. Her thoughts came to her already written, in other peopleโs handwriting.
Then one day the ceiling cracked.
It was only a thin wound in the woven dome, and through it fell the first light the Archive had seen in a thousand years. It did not warm her. It burned. It fell on her bowed head and set every buried sentence screaming at once: every curse, every prayer, every name she had been forced to carry.
She knelt. Not in worship. In surrender.
Because she finally understood what the Archive had always been. It was never a library. It was a tomb, built not to keep the dead but to keep the living from waking up.
Around her the pillars began to shed their skins. The pages fell like ash, like snow, like the last breath of a god that had never existed. The words came loose from her body and lay at her knees, already crumbling, already meaningless.
Beneath them there was nothing written at all.
Only her.
Silent. Unnamed. Unread.
And for the first time, terrifyingly, free.

Honestly this should not surprise me because of everything that we've been seeing going on here with ice. I hope they don't get paid either. ๐๐๐ผ๐๐ผ

This will be a premium upgrade for Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee! ๐บ๐ธ We will go from Jim Jordan, a dumb, inept idiot who never passed the bar exam and never sponsored a bill in his 19 years in the House, to Jamie Raskin! Jamie is an intelligent, compassionate man who received his JD magna cum laude from Harvard, admitted to the bar in both Maryland and DC, was Assistant AG in Massachusetts and a scholar and Professor of Constitutional Law! We look forward to having an intelligent and well respected chair again!
