ICP network activity is recovering, but its price hasn’t followed. According to Santiment, median daily active addresses rose 35% to 3,860, while new addresses increased 45% to 710. The comparison: July 24–August 22 vs. September 22–October 21. Rising address activity doesn’t automatically mean more users or stronger demand. The question is whether this growth translates into sustained network usage. beincrypto.com/internet-comp… xitter.cf/SantimentData/status/2…
$ICP is taking heat over adoption, with rival communities mocking its usage. Our on-chain data gives both sides something. 📈 Median daily active addresses rose ~35%, from 2,838 (Jul 24 to Aug 22) to 3,860 (Sep 22 to Oct 21). 🆕 New addresses grew faster, with the daily median up ~45%, from 481 to 710 over the same windows. 📊 The October highs are spiky. Oct 14 and Oct 21 each topped 7,400, while 16 of the month’s 21 days landed between 3,100 and 4,300. 🧭 Zoom out and the scale looks different: the peak week of early November 2025 averaged ~9,500 active addresses, roughly double the latest weekly readings. Activity has climbed off its summer low and now sits back near its Q1 range. 🔗 Explore ICP active addresses in Sanbase: app.santiment.net/charts/icp…

Not all ICP apps are controlled the same way. Some can be upgraded by a single developer or team. Others require multiple approvals, community governance through an SNS, or have no controller at all. That last option matters: without a controller, the canister can’t be upgraded through the usual controller mechanism. Different levels of control. Different levels of decentralization. The key is knowing who has the power to change the app.

ICP canisters now support native P-256 signing. P-256 is a widely used cryptographic standard that allows applications to create digital signatures, proving that data was signed by the holder of a specific key. With native support, ICP canisters can generate these signatures directly, without relying on an external signing service. This opens up new possibilities for integrating ICP applications with existing web infrastructure, including systems that use P-256 for authentication and digital certificates. Another building block for developers creating directly on ICP. Developer docs: docs.internetcomputer.org/re…

Private ICP transactions are now live. @meneseprotocol has launched shielded ICP transfers powered by zero-knowledge cryptography. Transaction proofs are generated in the user's browser and verified on-chain, keeping transfer amounts and sender-to-recipient links private, even from network node providers. xitter.cf/meneseprotocol/status/…
The wait is over shielded $ICP is now live. Every transaction is private, even from the node providers running the network. Your send history, balances, and activity stay protected. We built it to go beyond SEV’s limits, using pure cryptography so proofs are generated in your browser and verified on-chain without exposing anything. $BTC is coming next. $ICP #Privacy #ZK #InternetComputer

Why OpenChat's new architecture matters for its future on ICP. @OpenChat previously assigned every user a separate canister, costing approximately $0.70 to create and $0.50 annually to maintain. With around 250,000 canisters, OpenChat was spending an estimated $140,000 annually on canister base fees alone, excluding computation and storage. At 1 million users, the old model would have required approximately $700,000 in creation costs and $500,000 in annual maintenance fees. The new architecture changes this. Around 230,000 users have been migrated into just 100 shared canisters, allowing thousands of accounts to operate within the same smart contract. This significantly reduces fixed infrastructure overhead, simplifies upgrades and brings the additional canister cost of onboarding new users close to zero. OpenChat still pays for computation and storage, but its fixed canister costs no longer need to increase with every new account. A major architectural shift that makes scaling decentralized messaging to millions of users far more economically sustainable.

Built entirely on ICP, @OpenChat combines decentralized messaging, communities and crypto payments in a platform governed by its users. Unlike traditional messaging platforms, OpenChat has no central company controlling its future. Its community can participate in governance, making it a working example of what decentralized applications can offer beyond crypto and finance.

Can anyone get a .icp? Potentially, with one rule. DFINITY's .icp application reveals a proposed requirement for domains registered under the extension. According to its submission to ICANN: • Registrations would not be exclusive to DFINITY. • ❗️ Web frontends must be hosted on ICP, including Cloud Engines, within 90 days of registration. • Compliance would be verified through cryptographic ic-certificate proofs. • Backends, APIs and data storage may remain on external infrastructure. • Non-compliant domains would receive a 30-day correction period before facing DNS suspension. DFINITY proposes automated compliance checks at least monthly, with parked domains also subject to the hosting requirement. The rules remain subject to ICANN approval. The .icp extension has not yet been approved.

DFINITY has officially applied for the .icp top-level domain through ICANN's 2026 New gTLD Program. If approved, .icp could become a globally recognized domain extension, enabling addresses such as openchat.icp and oisy.icp to work in standard web browsers. The application must first pass ICANN's technical, financial, and regulatory evaluations. Source: newgtldprogram-aps.icann.org…

The Network Nervous System is the on-chain governance system of the Internet Computer. ICP holders can stake their tokens inside neurons to receive voting power and participate in proposals covering protocol upgrades, network economics, infrastructure management and other network parameters. Adopted proposals are executed automatically by the protocol. Eligible neurons that participate in governance receive voting rewards, while voting power is influenced by the amount of ICP staked and the selected commitment period. As of October 5, 2026: • 243.3 million ICP is locked in the NNS • This represents 43.7% of the total ICP supply • The NNS reports nearly 58,000 participants • More than 124,000 governance proposals have been recorded The NNS provides a transparent mechanism through which ICP holders can participate directly in the governance and continued development of the network. nns.ic0.app/

Software on ICP runs on cycles. Cycles are the computational fuel consumed by applications to: • Run code • Store data • Serve users Developers obtain cycles by converting ICP. As applications use the network’s computing resources, those cycles are consumed and permanently burned. From January 1 through October 4, 2026, approximately 555,000 $ICP was burned to create cycles. One trillion cycles equals one XDR, a stable reference unit designed to keep infrastructure costs predictable, even when the market price of ICP changes. This also enables ICP’s reverse-gas model: applications pay for their own operation instead of requiring every user to hold tokens and pay transaction fees. ICP carries value and governance. Cycles power the software.

ICP was attacked twice in less than a week and the network stayed online. On 28 August, DFINITY founder Dominic Williams reported an AI-enabled attack involving hundreds of canisters submitting malformed Wasm modules. The activity is visible in the network data: ICP’s burn rate jumped to roughly 7× its normal level. The attacks reportedly burned thousands of dollars’ worth of ICP in the process. On 1 September, another attack targeted ckBTC. This time, the ckBTC ledger was unavailable for around 80 minutes while the NNS stopped it, restarted it and changed its archiving configuration. ICP itself remained operational, ckBTC was restored and nothing was stolen. The attacks were not completely without impact but they failed to bring down ICP. The attackers paid for the load they created, and that ICP was burned.

DFINITY WANTS TO REPLACE ITS INTERNAL SAAS STACK WITH ICP-BASED OPEN SAAS. But the interesting part is how Open SaaS is supposed to work. It is a planned suite of business applications for accounting, HR, email, expenses, CRM, calendars, tasks, document signing and more, all designed to run on ICP Cloud Engines. These are not supposed to be separate, disconnected tools. The applications can form one connected data system that a permitted AI assistant can work across. Instead of having one AI inside your CRM, another inside your accounting software and another inside your inbox, the goal is to have one assistant that understands the organization across every application. It could connect information from the CRM with invoices, expenses, emails and upcoming tasks, then help users analyze information or perform actions across the business. This is what DFINITY means by “AIware”: software designed around AI from the beginning, rather than traditional SaaS with a chatbot added later. DFINITY describes Open SaaS as free, open-source and remixable, although running the applications on a Cloud Engine will still require paid compute. The suite is not publicly available yet. The latest video was a demo, and DFINITY has not disclosed which applications it has already migrated to or how much of the migration is complete. For now, the confirmed news is simple: DFINITY says it is beginning to use the Open SaaS model inside its own organization before releasing it more widely. #InternetComputer #ICP

UNDP and the DFINITY Foundation have announced a new partnership exploring sovereign cloud infrastructure and decentralized AI for governments, public institutions, civil society organizations and UNDP initiatives. The collaboration will use DFINITY’s Cloud Engines and Caffeine AI to help these organizations build and maintain applications inside secure, interoperable and locally governed digital environments. According to Axios, five countries are expected to be selected within roughly a month, likely across Latin America, Africa and Asia. Each country will bring a real public-sector challenge that can be turned into an AI-powered application and tested using DFINITY’s technology. The goal is simple: allow governments to use AI while retaining control over sensitive data and critical digital infrastructure, instead of becoming completely dependent on AWS, Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure. Potential areas include digital identity, payments, social protection, sensitive data and public services. To be precise: this is still at the pilot stage. The five countries have not been announced, and this is not a UN-wide migration to ICP. But it is significant. ICP is being evaluated exactly where its technology matters most: government-grade software and AI infrastructure that countries and institutions can control themselves. innovation.eurasia.undp.org/… axios.com/2026/08/25/un-sove…

OpenChat is getting native mobile apps. The Android version is currently in Google Play review, while OpenChat has also shown its first native iOS build running in an iOS simulator. But there’s an interesting trade-off. To distribute OpenChat through Google Play and Apple’s App Store, the store versions have to comply with additional platform rules. That means some content and functionality available on OpenChat may need to be restricted inside the App Store and Play Store builds. OpenChat’s own documentation makes this distinction clear: content can be allowed on OpenChat itself while still being hidden when the app is accessed through a third-party app store. Android users will still have another option. @OpenChat plans to keep a full version available as a manual APK, meaning it can be installed directly on Android without going through Google Play. v2.0.2040-android is already available through OpenChat’s GitHub. So there will effectively be two paths: Google Play → easier installation, store restrictions Manual APK → full OpenChat experience It’s an interesting example of what happens when an open, user-governed application meets the rules of closed mobile distribution platforms. A big frontend release also shipped the same day, focused on performance and memory after a few years of accumulated code. #InternetComputer #ICP #OpenChat
