Making Logia intangibility irrelevant with basic Armament Haki is one of Oda’s biggest mistakes. One of the things that made Logias so terrifying in pre-timeskip One Piece was that you couldn’t just punch your way through them. Fighting one required an actual solution. Crocodile needed water. Enel was unlucky enough to face the one person whose body naturally countered his powers. And against monsters like Kizaru, Aokiji and Akainu, sometimes your only realistic option was to run. That’s what made Logias special. They created a different kind of challenge that couldn’t simply be solved by hitting harder. Then the New World happened, and suddenly basic Armament Haki could bypass the very thing that made Logias so intimidating. I’m not saying Logias shouldn’t have counters. Every ability needs weaknesses. But there’s a massive difference between introducing specific ways to overcome an ability and making its defining advantage accessible to practically every competent Haki user. And I think this contributed to a bigger problem with post-timeskip fights. Instead of finding creative ways to counter different Devil Fruits, too many confrontations eventually boil down to who has stronger Haki. Logias went from being some of the most terrifying abilities in the series to feeling like another Devil Fruit category that can be dealt with by having sufficiently strong Haki. And think about what that does to the Admirals’ portrayal. Kizaru, Akainu, Aokiji and Greenbull were introduced as some of the most untouchable forces in the world. Logia intangibility was a huge part of that aura. Now we’re approaching the Final Saga, and I genuinely miss that feeling of seeing a Logia user and wondering how the hell anyone is supposed to touch them. A counter should create a new challenge, not erase what made the ability special in the first place.
