A good film will compel you to empathize with characters that are like yourself; a great film will compel you to empathize with those that are not. – at St Louis, MO

James Cameron: "In Star Wars the good guys are the rebels. They use asymmetric warfare against a highly organized empire. I think we call those guys ‘terrorists’ today."
George Lucas: “That was the whole point."

In Italy, for a long time the bulk of movie theaters were attached to (and managed by) catholic churches. A movie would be launched in premium theaters (“prima visione”) then move to these cheaper, smaller theaters (“seconda visione”). They would also replay lots of old westerns, toga & sandals, old 007 movies, etc. The theaters had wooden creaky chairs. The projectors would malfunction (see Tarantino’s Planet Terror to get a sense of a burned film). People would comment on the movie loudly, and smoke, and laugh together. The theater was packed in the weekends. It was exactly like you see it in “Cinema Paradiso”. It was truly a magical experience, to be in some aesthetic communion with strangers, full of wonder and excitement for two hours. We were not simply watching movies. We were traveling with and through them.
Sociologists and economists fight it out all the time on how materially well off we are now. True. I watch streamed movie all the time. Convenient. But we have also lost many treasured experiences. Some people like Tarantino deeply understand it. I am afraid that Sarandos has absolutely no idea of this.
When asked if Netflix is destroying Hollywood, co-CEO Ted Sarandos said “No, we’re saving Hollywood.”
“We’re in a period of transition. Folks grew up thinking, ‘I want to make movies on a gigantic screen and have strangers watch them [and to have them] play in the theater for two months and people cry and sold-out shows … It’s an outdated concept.”

For 22 months, Israel has pursued a policy of systematically destroying Palestinian life in Gaza. Senior officials in government and the military openly speak of devastation and annihilation.
The remarks by former head of Military Intelligence Aharon Haliva are part of a long line of official statements that expose a deliberate policy of genocide.
The Israeli military implements what its commanders order: deliberate and indiscriminate attacks on Gaza. In this framework, there are no “uninvolved civilians” in Gaza and every single palestinian is a target.
This is genocide. It is happening now. It must be stopped.

What the actual fuck! The Nazification of America is in full swing. Trump's Gestapo raided an elementary school in Chicago. 😡😡😡👇
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Secret Service released a statement to public stating that 2 Secret Service agents did visit the school in a response to a threat made. ICE was not involved. The agents left after investigation without incident.

Three fundamental themes inform the blizzard of Trump's executive actions: 1]Trump wants to eliminate all federal govt programs designed to aid the poor and minority groups 2]he wants to destroy any govt agency that seeks to regulate the rich oligarchs who got him elected and 3]

JFK conspiracy theories —
The truth is alot sadder than the myth — a tragedy that didn’t need to happen. Not part of an inevitable grand scheme.
Declassification is using JFK as a political prop, when he’s not here to punch back.
There’s nothing heroic about it.
