The way we feel about math affects the way our students feel about math. For so many educators, that relationship with mathematics began decades before stepping in front of a classroom—shaped by a timed test, a page of red X's, or the subtle message that they just weren't a "math person". But those early stories don't stay in the past. They directly impact teacher confidence, classroom culture, and the learning environments we create for students. Throughout #NCSM26 in Denver, Dr. Deborah Peart Crayton led honest, necessary conversations examining the deeply human side of math education. Alongside Lauren Keeling and Vanessa Vakharia, her focus at #NCSM was on interrupting that cycle: • Moving beyond basic computation to nurture deep, conceptual thinkers. • Equipping leaders to build safe, collaborative cultures where math anxiety can be acknowledged and healed. • Ensuring every educator and student has the agency to proudly claim their identity as a mather. Healing our own relationship with math is where better instruction actually starts. Thank you to every district leader, specialist, and coach who packed our rooms and leaned into this work with us at NCSM! #MathEducation #EdLeadership #MathIdentity #MathAnxiety #ImagineLearning #DeepThinkers #ImagineIM
