Proud to be the advisor for the amazing @univmiami chapter of the Society of Women Engineers. I love my job at the @umiamiengineer
They did an amazing job inspiring 160 local middle school girls, and making sure they know the possibilities are endless!

Teenagers doing laundry is always an adventure. Today's: "there were Smarties in my school shorts" 🤦🏻♀️ FYI: they don't dissolve in the washer (or dryer). 😂
Been at jury duty for 2 hours. 1st movie, one with Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton. Now the Greatest Showman. I just want my popcorn.
So proud of these students! I've been lucky to be their professor this past year. Can't wait to see what else they'll achieve.

Happy official first day of summer vacations. I wish you patience to delay the inevitable "I can't wait for school to start" and "who thought a 13 hour road trip was a good idea".
2 teenagers alone at home for 2 hours and the dog ate the (very expensive) 9th grade history textbook.

Excited to be a part of this celebration tomorrow with @ColorAndNumbers to talk about our HSI grant projects. Our amazing multi-year, multi-project collaboration with @gemdemhen and @imbasalo has supported and amplified the voices and work of engineering educators at HSIs!

Not all 2020 was bad: Read 21 books. Worked out almost every day. 7th grader does his own laundry. 5th grader learned to make pancakes by watching YouTube. 2nd grader became a book lover like his brothers. BUT I AM SO GLAD IT’S OVER. Cheers to 2021 and to very low expectations.
I love learning new words in English ❤️ Today’s: susurrus, from @exlarson Isaac’s Storm. Almost the same as “susurro” in Spanish. Happy day! I also finished the incredible The Warmth from Other Suns @Isabelwilkerson Finishing up the year on a nonfiction binge, 17 books read!

When Sars cov 2 is over, we will have to deal with the damage done to school kids-- disproportionately poor and minority kids deprived of school for months-- this damage will haunt us for the rest of my life and deeply scar the social fabric.

If anyone wondered how it came about that children got such a raw deal during this pandemic despite barely being affected by the disease, it’s because children:
-Don’t vote
-Don’t pay tax
-Don’t have a Union
They have no voice, so they need ours.
