We ran six real WordPress photos through AVIF and WebP at matched quality (SSIM 0.985).
AVIF was the smallest file on all six. 37% smaller than WebP across the set.
And WebP didn't even beat JPEG every time ↓
Browser support is basically solved. caniuse has WebP at 97.08% and AVIF at 96.33%.
Small gap. Not zero. Serve AVIF with no fallback and older Safari users get a broken image.
And WordPress core won't convert your JPEGs to AVIF on its own.
So serve both. AVIF first, WebP second, the original as the safety net.
Infinite Uploads does that at the CDN on the same .jpg URL. No markup changes. Image Optimization is on Business plans, from $24/mo billed yearly.
Which format is your site serving right now?
Gray boxes in your Media Library almost never mean lost files.
WordPress usually knows about the images. The browser can't reach them, the grid request is failing, the files were never catalogued, or your posts still hold old URLs.
Figure out WHICH problem you have first ↓
Before you offload your WordPress media anywhere, ask one question: can I get my files back?
Infinite Uploads has a built-in Download & Disconnect tool that copies your cloud files back to your server before you leave. Your files belong to you ↓

Your image CDN bill is either visits or GB.
Optimole meters unique daily visitors. Infinite Uploads meters storage and CDN bandwidth. Same job, different bill, and a traffic spike only hits one of those meters.
We broke down both models with real plan numbers and a worked example ↓

"They open the reply box, and there is no way to add the picture from their computer or phone."
If you run a bbPress forum, you've seen this. Anna Widera at BerryPress walks through fixing it, then moving those forum images to the cloud with Infinite Uploads ↓
