Yesterday @EmilyThornberry revealed a Pakistani man who came to Islington to work as carer is "relieved" his family will all be allowed to stay forever. The family has now been joined by "a little boy with a rare genetic condition." She asked @ShabanaMahmood if the lad can have UK taxpayer funded benefits. Of course we all want the best for him but this begs so many questions. Is he their son? Did they just abandon him till now? How many other low paid carers are bringing relatives who are partly or wholly dependent on the state? It's completely unaffordable!

I think Tim Martin ( Wetherspoons) will not be pleased at this misunderstanding of what the poppy symbol means
It is NOT political
It's a symbol of when politics unites out of respect for the fallen

He gave up his world and made the dog his world. Look at the amount of love and warmth he gives to the dog. ❤️❤️❤️

LUCAS WENT TO THE SHELTER PLANNING TO ADOPT JUST ONE DOG… 🐾❤️
The shelter smelled of disinfectant, wet concrete, and something else that was hard to explain — maybe hope.
Lucas was 27, living alone in a small one-bedroom apartment, and he thought adopting a dog would be simple.
His friends had shown him pictures of Max, a Golden Retriever with a smile that could brighten any room. The moment Lucas walked up to his kennel, Max rushed toward him, wagging his tail, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
Lucas laughed.
“This is the one,” he thought.
But then, he noticed another dog.
Sitting quietly at the back of the kennel was Maya, a gray Pit Bull with beautiful amber eyes. She wasn't barking or jumping around. She was simply watching Max, never taking her eyes off him.
A volunteer named Sophie gently explained their story.
Max and Maya had been found together two years earlier, and since then, they had been inseparable.
The shelter had once tried to separate them, hoping Max could be adopted alone.
But Maya stopped eating.
She trembled whenever she was left alone, and Max became withdrawn too. He refused comfort from everyone.
When they were finally reunited, Maya rested her head against Max and peacefully fell asleep.
“They only want one dog,” Sophie explained. “Max is easy to adopt, but Maya depends on him. And honestly, Max isn't quite himself without her either.”
Lucas stood silently, taking it all in.
Something about Maya's quiet fear touched his heart. He understood what it felt like to need someone when everything around you seemed uncertain.
Finally, he looked at Sophie and said:
“Then I'll take both.”
Sophie warned him about the challenges — the small apartment, the extra expenses, the responsibility, and the emotional difficulties of caring for two frightened dogs.
Lucas listened carefully.
But his mind was already made up.
He couldn't imagine taking Max home while leaving Maya behind.
The first few weeks weren't easy.
Maya was terrified. She wouldn't eat unless Max was beside her. Most of the time, she'd curl up in the smallest corners of the apartment, barely moving.
Lucas never forced her to trust him.
He simply stayed by her side.
He gave her patience, peace, space, and time.
Little by little, things began to change.
One step toward him instead of away.
A longer look into his eyes.
A quiet moment without fear.
Then, one evening, something beautiful happened.
Max was sleeping across the room when Maya slowly approached Lucas.
She stopped beside him, gently lowered her heavy head onto his knees, and stayed there.
It was her way of saying:
“I trust you now.”
A year later, the apartment is still small, and Lucas sometimes feels more exhausted than he ever imagined he would.
But he wouldn't change a thing.
Max is still the goofy, happy Golden Retriever who fills every room with joy.
And Maya? She's no longer hiding in his shadow.
She walks confidently now, as if she's finally realized that she belongs.
Every morning, Maya reaches the door first. Then she turns around and looks at Lucas with those beautiful amber eyes.
No words are needed.
Her question is always the same:
“Are you coming with us?”
And Lucas always follows.
Because somewhere along the way, he realized something truly special…
He hadn't just rescued two dogs.
They had rescued a part of him, too. 🐾❤️
