There's a lot of concern about how much #energy demand #AI and data centers will put on the world's electrical grids.
But there's not nearly as much worry about grid stress from electric vehicle demand🤔
@SSteyer41 examines if it's warranted 👇

I’m back again on the @halcyon blog! US data centers use 20x more electricity than US data centers today, but EVs could become the biggest growth driver soon. ⚡️💻🚗

Our demand of Oakland leaders is simple:
1. Fix Oakland's public safety crisis
2. Tackle homelessness
3. Build more housing
4. Restore trust and accountability to government
5. Strengthen Oakland's economy and small businesses
6. Clean up blight and improve street safety
7. Foster high quality public schools
The majority of Oaklanders want this too, and when they know which politicians can deliver, they will vote for them. That's Empower Oakland's goal: to empower voters to take the city back from special interests and ideologues.
Just launched our updated website, with practical action plans for moving Oakland forward: empoweroakland.com/
What do you think? Any ideas we should add to our action plans?

Ultimately, an information system supplies value not just by mapping information into quadrants like we do, but by changing the state of information within those quadrants.

Earlier this week @jackpolicar asked an AI-powered search tool about #heatpump pricing. He got a lot of hot air in response🙄

We had a great time hosting an event for @empoweroak last night @BuildCasa HQ. More than 40 ppl attended focused on building a better Oakland focused on progress over ideology. Speakers included founders @lorenmtaylor, @gaganbiyani, and @rezewong.

In less than 5 years, John Fisher and the @Athletics will have made $40M in profit on their $85M purchase of half of the Oakland coliseum property - selling it for $125M.
With today’s announcement, AASEG’s 50% interest in the Coliseum property is confirmed to be worth $125M… $20M more valuable than the $105M they agreed to pay the City of Oakland for it just last week.
The coliseum sale is clearly a great deal for John Fisher and a great deal for AASEG. But is it a good deal for Oaklanders?
Check out Empower Oakland’s latest newsletter to better understand the property sale and its implications for Oakland.

I think Oakland is the Bay Area's best-kept secret.
- Incredible weather
- Amazing location
- Diverse, kind people who aren't defined by their work
- Fantastic food and drink
- Green, lush parks
- Eclectic, edgy, artsy culture
I truly love this place!

Just 5 years ago, Oakland was heralded as a national story for hope.
Homicides and nonfatal shootings were down 50%, local businesses were booming, and our diverse population was increasing. We can get there again.
This upcoming election is one of the most important in Oakland’s history. On the ballot:
- Mayor*
- District Attorney*
- Majority of City Council (5 of 8)
- Majority of School Board (5 of 8)
- City Attorney
- Alameda County Board of Supervisors
*via recall
The city’s political future can be decided in just one election.
That’s why now is such a critical time to act, and why we are kicking Empower Oakland into the next gear.
We are stoked for Oakland’s future. Incredible weather, outstanding location, beautiful urban/suburban vibe, insane diversity, and the best people. Oakland can and should be the pride and joy of California or even the USA.
Is this the most consequential election in Oakland’s history?

We're obviously biased, but we think that specialized knowledge, unique data and bespoke products can be a sustainable moat; #AI startups have some distinct advantages.
