I’m turning forty today. I resisted the urge to write about the passage of time, or my body’s increasingly poor relationship with alcohol, so I wrote instead about books. It is mostly about the absurdity of war, and the case for love and human connection. iordanou.org/blog/the-same-b…
Friday was Johnny's birthday (see post below). Today is his party with his schoolmates. I'm dreading the socialisation part of it, so going for a run to prepare myself. 😛
New Fatherhood Diary. On Johnny turning nine, a thousand questions per day that are sometimes overwhelming, and a father who isn’t quite ready for his children to grow up. iordanou.org/blog/fd-thousan…

Beautifully written.
The candidness with which one questions oneself is often the very trait that steers us, like a precious compass, in only the right direction.
Parenting resembles a never ending journey one of patience, stamina, honesty & unconditional love in my opinion.

Such an interesting event. Thank you @FionaMullenCY for the facilitation and the invitation. The reflections on the Irish experience are insightful and particularly useful, as citizens' assemblies are set to be introduced in Cyprus.

More participatory processes, especially bottom-up ones, are not only welcome but necessary. Challenges are there: buy-in from political leadership, sufficient funding, and appeal beyond the "reunification crowd" (you know who you/we are, and that's part of the problem).
I hate being told what to do and/or what not to do. Always have, always will, and it's what is driving my hyper autonomy, which served me well so far. When it happens, as it inevitably does sometimes, my whole body protests from the inside.
I’m at @UCYOfficial today and tomorrow for training. It really is the jewel of the island, both in research and infrastructure. And to think that many conservatives vehemently opposed its establishment, fearing it would promote Cypriotness and sever ties with Greece. (1/2)
Άκουσαν ποτέ κάποιο Κύπριο να αποκαλεί την Κύπρο «Μεγαλόνησο» ή να την προφέρει «Τζύπρο»; Τι εν τούτο το κακό;
This week I was attacked on social media over an article I recently wrote. Friends who saw the attacks reached out, not realising that writing publicly since my teenage years, back in 2004, has rendered me absolutely impervious to insults from strangers.
The fact that Sally Rooney's books—all best sellers—will not be sold in the UK anymore is deeply worrying. I don't think we could ever have imagined a future (beyond dystopian literature) where books would be essentially banned because of the author's political beliefs.
