#ThisWeekinUSNigeriaHistory in 2022, Marvel Studios brought the African premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to Nigeria, marking the first time a Marvel film premiered on the continent. The star-studded event at Filmhouse Cinemas IMAX in Lekki welcomed director Ryan Coogler and stars including Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, and Winston Duke, alongside Nollywood stars and entertainment industry leaders. By combining the United States' global production capabilities, investment capacity, and distribution networks with Nigeria's exceptional creative talent, music, and cultural influence, strategic economic partnerships can unlock new markets, create jobs, expand commercial opportunities, and drive increased U.S.–Nigeria trade. #Freedom250 Photo credit: Bellanaija

You just rig first and see. No Nigerian is more Nigerian than any other Nigerian, regardless of office or uniform. #RigandKpai2027 #TakeYourFitnessSeriously
After safely ferrying their children abroad, some unscrupulous politicians are encouraging hapless citizens and thugs to take up weapons to kill one another under the pretext of ‘protecting their votes’. That’s fine. Let me reiterate what late President Buhari said pre-2019 election (which I supported and I still support): when you resort to self-help and you take up dangerous weapons in the guise of ‘protecting your votes’ and you attack anybody, it is lawful and legitimate for law enforcement agents to ‘neutralise’ you or simple ‘put you down’ in the course of their duty. And the children of the politicians will be watching your foolishness from their safe haven somewhere in the world. Having been forewarned, you can then go ahead and exercise your options. CHIKENA!!

Today, we remember the lives lost on 20 October 2020. We mourn them and stand with the families whose lives were forever changed by the struggle against police brutality. Six years later, we must ask: what has truly changed? From the use of police to disrupt my declaration into the ADC to the poor welfare and housing conditions facing officers, we must confront a system that too often fails both citizens and those entrusted to protect them. Police officers deserve dignity and decent working conditions. Citizens deserve protection, accountability and freedom from intimidation. Neither should be sacrificed for political interests. We honour the #EndSARS victims by continuing to demand a Lagos and a Nigeria where institutions serve the people, and power is exercised with responsibility. May their sacrifice never be in vain.

Governance is about vision, empathy, integrity, respect for the rule of law and the constitution and commitment to the welfare of the greatest number. History shows clearly that Nigeria's most positive consequential leaders, Awolowo, Jakande, Aminu Kano had no experience in political office before getting into office. What is even more tragic is how out of touch those with so called " experience" have shown themselves to be. Lagos is not a company, Governance is not a for profit agency, It's success should not be determined solely by IGR, Good governance is about service delivery, an enabling enviroment created by maximising our common wealth to positively impact the majority at the best possible price in the shortest possible time. On that metric, the APC government has failed woefully. The APC Lagos ideology and system is solely to sustain their racketeering, budget / procurement padding and God fatherisim. YOU are only a factor every 4 years. What they have failed to achieve in 20+ years, they will not achieve in another 4 years. It is time to end this parasitic chokehold on Lagos State. LAGOS DESERVES BETTER.

Consul General Brandon Hudspeth to naval leaders from 30 nations and organizations: Don’t mistake progress for permanence. Bad actors adapt, so the international response must too.    Opening the 3rd Transatlantic Maritime Security Symposium in Lagos, he pointed to the Gulf of Guinea as proof of what coordinated national, regional, and global effort can achieve. The four-day event focused on strengthening the Yaoundé Code of Conduct and deepening joint patrols.  It was organized by the National Defense University’s Africa Center for Strategic Studies and the William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies.

50+ Forces Armées de Côte d'Ivoire (FACI) members are teaming up with U.S. Civil-Military Affairs & Strategic Stabilization Advisors this month to train as civil-military coordinators. 🇺🇸🤝🇨🇮   Stronger community ties = regional stability.

Since 2 October 2026, all four Lagos State-owned universities: LASU, LASUED, LASUSTECH and LASUCOM have been shut by an indefinite strike. This was avoidable and unacceptable. University workers deserve a pay rise and a government that honours its commitments to them. A government that allows its universities to shut down indefinitely is not only failing its workers, it is gambling with the future of our children. Nine months of unpaid arrears, from January to September 2026, Implementation of the agreed salary structure and a 15 per cent “Lagos Factor” to reflect the extraordinary cost of living in Lagos, are not unreasonable demands in an economy that has pauperized working people. Lagos is now the biggest recipient of federal allocations among Nigeria’s states. It’s internally generated revenue is unquestionably the highest, but yet it lacks empathy towards its workers. Recall that in 2023, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu pledged a 20 percent salary increase for university workers and five Marcopolo buses to improve transportation for students and staff. Three years later, workers are still waiting. A government that cannot fulfil a commitment to provide five buses for its own universities must explain why Lagosians should continue to trust its promises. I therefore call on the Lagos State Government to immediately pay the nine months of arrears owed to university workers, covering January to September 2026. Additionally, the government must Implement the agreed salary structure and the 15 per cent Lagos Factor in full. It should also honor the 2023 commitment to provide five Marcopolo buses for our universities. I call on Governor Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Hamzat, to meet with the unions this week and bring this strike to an immediate end. Lagos can afford to pay its university workers but what Lagos cannot afford is a government that chooses its comfort over the future of our children.
