BlackRock, Ondo, Circle. The institutions that moved first are now setting the pace. A real-world asset (RWA) Treasuries, real estate, private credit, gold, equities converted into a digital token on-chain. What that unlocks: fractional ownership of previously gated assets, 24/7 global liquidity, transparent verifiable yields, and borderless access for anyone with a wallet. Where the market stands mid-2026: $32B+ total on-chain RWA value, tokenized U.S. Treasuries leading at $12–15B, private credit and commodities accelerating fast, 900K+ unique holders. This isn't a narrative trade. The capital coming in has legal teams and compliance officers behind it. What's working is real yield. Not points, not emissions. Tokenized Treasuries and credit products delivering 4–8%+ APY with actual backing. Retail investors accessing asset classes that previously required accredited status or six-figure minimums. Faster settlement, lower overhead, programmable compliance baked into the token itself. The risks are real. Regulatory fragmentation, counterparty exposure, smart contract and oracle vulnerabilities, liquidity spread thin across chains, and a label already being abused by weaker projects. Verify the issuer, check the audit, understand the legal wrapper every time. The problem most analysis overlooks. Most blockchains were built to do everything DeFi, NFTs, gaming, whatever. Compliance is an afterthought patched in later. That's fine for retail apps. It's a dealbreaker for institutions moving real assets. Business loans, energy projects and private credit, these don't belong inside infrastructure designed for general-purpose use. The infrastructure that can change that doesn't exist yet on general-purpose chains. It has to be built for this specific job. That's the problem a new wave of builders is solving from the ground up.
