HOW TO CHECK IF A VIRAL POLITICAL PHOTO IS TELLING THE TRUTH BEFORE YOU SHARE IT. On October 31, 2026, a photograph from a polling location in Rogers, Minnesota, caused a major online controversy. A poll worker was photographed wearing a white T-shirt with the words "Problem Solved" and what looked like blood splatter. People online accused the worker of making fun of the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The image spread, political commentators demanded action, and officials were asked to investigate. But here's the twist. The City of Rogers later confirmed that the worker said the shirt was Halloween attire, not a political statement. The worker was also identified as a Republican. Officials said they would have asked the worker to cover it if they had known about the controversy. So, how do you avoid being misled by viral political content? 1. Check where the image first appeared. Don't rely on screenshots reposted by random accounts. 2. Search for the original story. Look for reports from established news organizations. 3. Check the date and location. An old image can be presented as a new incident. 4. Look for an official response. Check statements from the relevant city, police department or election office. 5. Separate facts from assumptions. What a picture appears to show isn't always what actually happened. The lesson? A photograph can be real, but the story attached to it can still be misleading. Before you share the next controversial post, investigate it first.
