After tonight's news from Germany, here is Dietrich singing "Where have all the flowers gone ?" in German
The most haunting, simple, deeply moving song about war and man's inability to learn from the past. No one could ever sing it like she does here

Whoever is Prime Minister in the coming months for heaven’s sake try to get David Miliband back into UK politics to be part of your team. His interview on Today programme just now a reminder of how much his voice and his brain are missed.

Today marks the start of a new school year in Afghanistan.
Boys go to school to learn, while women are forced onto the streets to beg just to survive.
World, please see—this is the Taliban and their “respect” for Afghan women.💔

Tomorrow marks the start of a new school year in Afghanistan. For the fifth year in a row, girls are still banned from secondary education.
This is not just a policy , it is the loss of a generation to repression and politics.
Recently, I spoke at the European Parliament for two consecutive day during a meeting of the EU parliament delegation for Afghanistan chaired Raquel García Hermida‑van der Walle MEP, and sub committee on human rights chaired by @MounirSatouri
I highlighted how the Taliban’s return to power continues to affect not only Afghanistan, but also regional stability and international security.
I also emphasized the urgent need to hold those responsible for human rights violations accountable. International mechanisms must be used to protect the voiceless before discrimination becomes normalized, Europe is the content people look at and look towards in upholding principles of Human Rights.
The world must not keep silence. I also called on the OIC and GCC to take every measure to stop the Taliban on misrepresenting our religion to justify their denial of girls’ education and fundamental rights. Education is not against our religion. Discrimination is.
We must stand for the rights, dignity, and future of Afghanistan and its people ,especially its girls , before it is too late.

Excellent questions this week on the @restispolitics podcast. @campbellclaret pointing out that Nigel Farage has repeatedly lied, broken the UK Parliamentary code and dismissed his proven links to Russia. Why does Farage get a free ride from much of the UK media when others don't

What is "money spent on climate change"? Is it flood defences to stop your house becoming flooded or the Norfolk broads becoming saline? Is it trees in the city to stop you dying from heat? Is it roads that don't melt in the heat? Is it measures for resilience in drought?

Here's our last parody song about the #USElection2024. It's called "Bohemian Trumpsody" (based on the inimitable @QueenWillRock but with only six voices & no overdubs) & we've self-trolled in it as 'libtards' already, just to save folks time who might be offended 🎶🗳️🤞

Report that EU proposal on work and study for under-30s could be revisited is denied by government
Please retweet if you demand that the government drop its grovelling subservience to the right-wing press and the dwindling minority of hard-core Brexit xenophobes.
Our Freedom of Movement was robbed from us by the worst abuses of democracy in modern British history. We demand that it is restored in accordance with the will of the majority.

What is it about a man who has been criminally convicted, found by a jury to have sexually assaulted a woman, incited his followers to march on the Capitol on January 6th, refused to accept the democratic will of the American people, mocked the husband of Nancy Pelosi after he was attacked in his own home, weakened America’s gun laws, grossly mishandled the pandemic, made misogynistic and racist remarks, shamed the office of the Presidency, lied routinely, and shown himself to be devoid of grace, decency and dignity, that Trump’s fans find so appealing?
