I said I wasn’t going to weigh in on who should be prime minister of Israel as that is a decision for Israeli citizens. I did, however, want to share one point of view from the perspective of someone who has an understanding of how Israel is perceived in America.
Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich have caused Israel enormous reputational damage with their statements and actions which are presented in the global media as representing the voice and will of all Israelis.
As such, a government formed without Ben-Gvir and Smotrich will send a message to the rest of the world that Israel is turning a new page.
This will allow Israel to rebuild lost credibility, increase the opportunity for an expansion of the Abraham Accords, and enjoy a better relationship with Democrats and Republicans and Americans at large.
This is not a "safety net".

This will do wonders for public trust in academia... There'll be no accountability. No lessons will be learnt. The corruption of standards and excellence and the politicisation and weaponisation of scholarship will continue unabated.
Cambridge is no longer planning to investigate Jason Arday’s academic record or the university’s decision to hire or cover for him.
Instead, the investigation will focus on “his welfare, his care, his well-being” and “whether the school offered him sufficient support amid accusations that he plagiarized.”
Extremely damning. If only mainstream journalists and government agencies did their jobs of uncovering and preventing this kind of organised and systemic fraud, we wouldn't need sensationalist YouTubers to fill this vacuum.

Katle Kanye is a groundbreaking contemporary Yiddish writer, who explores his chassidic society with both insider warmth and heimishkeit, as well as biting satirical critique. This moving and profound Yom Kippur story is his first to be translated into English.

The Yom Kippur story "The Jewish King Lear" by Katle Kanye is deeply moving, profound and quite innovative. Published 25 years ago in Yiddish, I publish it now for the first time in English translation for a wider audience.

Even putting the issue of animal cruelty completely aside, kapporot embodies a superstitious, transactional view of sin and forgiveness that is the antithesis of genuine introspection, regret, repentance. 1/
This was a dreadful time of year, full of fear, anxiety, trauma. God was judging us for every move and thought. Our lives were literally on the line. You went through it and just did what you had to do, eager for it all to be over. 9/

Just had a request for a Yiddish interpreting booking in court for this coming Monday. Who is this mysterious creature who is so chassidish that he can't understand English, but so OTD that he'd be in court on Yom Kippur?
On the streets of London. I hope this man is found and arrested. We don't live under Shariah law, and we don't live under a halachic theocracy either.
