How do you change a culture bent on authoritarianism? Or steer people towards empathy for minorities + the vulnerable? I didn't realize when I began writing my new book about the gay Jewish lawyer Fritz Bauer it would become a primer for our own troubled time. In 1949 FB returned

Time to stop what you're doing and get a huge discount on one of the great heroes of the 20th century you've never heard about. Cold War thriller about the hunt for Nazi war criminals #fritzbauer @bnbooks @CrownPublishing
My new book on the amazing Fritz Bauer is out this month! It's the story of Bauer's battle to force a West German govt stacked with ex-Nazis to reckon with the Holocaust. I’m going to be sharing what's moved and disturbed me over the past 5 yrs research on Bsky, but want to give
I've been wonderfully guided by the great historians Werner Renz, Mary Fulbrook and Klaus-Dietmar Henke. Special mention to Devin Pendas for his ground-breaking study of the Frankfurt Auschwitz trial.
No book would have been written without my research team led by Ingrid Pufahl, Katarzyna Chiżyńska, Sine Maria Vinther and Harriet Phillips. And thank you @CrownPublishing @penguinrandom for putting it all together!
Polish war hero #WitoldPilecki survived Auschwitz to report on Nazi crimes, but never got to return home. OTD 75 yrs ago he was executed by Communists for fighting postwar Soviet occupation of Poland, his story hidden+home razed. Nothing was to remain- please help share his story
A Rebel in Auschwitz just got shortlisted for a lovely prize, the Young Quills award, in which children and young people choose the shortlist. Honoured to be on with @okayjane and @skinofthesea. Their books sound brilliant, will be reading with my crew!
Very excited to announce the Young Quills shortlist 2022. In the category 14 yrs + we have: We Played with Fire @okayjane; A Rebel in Auschwitz @jackfairweather; Skin of the Sea @skinofthesea history.org.uk/aboutus/categ… #HAYQ2022
Really proud of my amazing sister Chloe Fairweather who only went and got her 1st feature doc selected as the UK's official pick for #Oscars2022! The film covers domestic violence in Turkey and the remarkable women battling to stop. In cinemas Nov 25: m.imdb.com/news/ni63421643

Since my hero is 19th century feminist and war journalist Margaret Fuller, it’s a huge honor today to receive the @FullerSociety award for “having worked in some significant way to promulgate the social ideals advanced by Margaret Fuller.” Thank you.

#WitoldPilecki's mission to report on #Auschwitz crimes showed him to be one of the greatest truth-tellers. Thank you @annedaly19 for making the connection to Caesar's brave work exposing Assad's regime. Looking forward to your doc #BringingAssadToJustice
.@JackFairweather I just finished your amazing book #TheVolunteer about #WitoldPilecki exposing horrors of Auschwitz & constantly reminded me of v brave Syrians like Caesar exposing #Assad’s Holocaust & his “human slaughterhouses” while finishing our doc #BringingAssadToJustice
Five years in #witoldpilecki's footsteps convinced me he's one of WWII's greatest heroes. The only reason this remarkable Pole and his mission to #Auschwitz not better known is because he fought Poland's Communist takeover postwar and was executed. He was born 120 yrs ago today.
#WitoldPilecki inspired many lives in Auschwitz and beyond, inc. me to follow in his footsteps for five years. I'm thrilled to share his story with one of my favourite WWII writers @claremulley, biographer of another great Pole, #thespywholoved. Join us @ bit.ly/3tkcdkD
I’m delighted to be talking to @jackfairweather about #witoldpilecki the #WW2 resistance hero who infiltrated #Auschwitz, as told in his @CostaBookAwards winning #thevolunteer. Online @ReadersWritersF 7pm, 6 May...
It’s so great to see Pilecki’s story getting out there (especially when stuck at home), thanks for sharing Dominika!
Miło widzieć bestseller @jackfairweather o Witoldzie Pileckim w sklepiku-księgarni w PE 🙂 Teraz czekam na najnowszą książkę @Roger_Moorhouse tam.
First to Fight is the best book you can read on the start of World War II and Poland’s extraordinary wartime resistance. I only wish @Roger_Moorhouse had written it sooner so I could have used it for my research ;) Huge congrats Roger! I would love to be able to share a toast 🍻
Warmest congratulations to @Roger_Moorhouse, the winner of the competition "The best foreign-language publication promoting the history of Poland" organised by @PolandMFA, as well as to @jackfairweather for the 1st distinction! 🥇📚🇵🇱🇬🇧
Well-deserved success! 👏🏻👏🏻
