DATA Network and its Trace registry are moving onto the @SuiNetwork stack, giving AI labs rights-cleared training data on infrastructure built for AI.

DATA is coming to @SuiNetwork.
The DATA Network and Trace are joining the Sui stack, bringing a live supply of rights-cleared AI training data to infrastructure built for AI workloads.
With 250M+ receipts already recorded by Trace, AI labs will be able to source real-world data with verifiable provenance, while @WalrusProtocol provides the underlying storage layer.
Sui Foundation is investing $30 million in the DATA Network, establishing the largest institutional stake in the network, alongside the continuing holdings of PIP Labs and the DATA Foundation. Furthering the alignment, SY Lee, founder of the DATA Network and CEO of PIP Labs, joins Sui Foundation as Strategic Advisor.
In the coming months:
▸ The DATA Network will be upgraded to run as a protocol natively on Sui
▸ Walrus becomes the default storage layer for DATA Foundation apps
▸ $DATA remains the token of the DATA protocol

There are things I am still waiting for an opportunity, a promising sign, a day when all my efforts finally blossom. At times, my heart grows a little heavy, and I find myself wondering if I am on the right path, or how much further I have yet to go. But then I realize: as long as there is still longing, the fire within is still burning.

5/6 What I actually measured:
• Deposited 5 XLM: wallet balance dropped by 5 plus a small network fee
• Sent 1 XLM inside the channel: wallet balance unchanged, so it really is free
• Withdrew 1 XLM: about 2 minutes from request to confirmation, and the wallet received the full +1 XLM
User, operator, and escrow numbers all matched ✅

What I liked:
• Very small fees (on testnet): depositing 5 XLM cost only about 0.03 XLM in network fees, transfers inside the channel are free, and per Cell's description the operator covers the payout fee on withdrawals
• Fast: transfers inside the channel are instant, and once the operator approves, funds reach the wallet in about 1 minute (about 2 minutes from the moment I submitted the request)
• Many key steps come with clear warnings (a withdrawal is a request, not a payment; a transfer can't be undone once sent), plus a step where you retype the last four characters of the address to avoid sending to the wrong one
One small suggestion: explain terms like tenant, escrow, and release cap a bit more for newcomers.

Nothing changes today, and I think that’s the underrated part: the existing DATA Network keeps operating until the upgrade is complete, after which the protocol will run natively on Sui and the independent chain will eventually be retired, with a detailed timeline promised ahead of the migration.
Trace already records 250M+ receipts for rights-cleared AI training data, and provenance like that only earns the trust of AI labs when the infrastructure behind it is dependable and open about change, so a clear, step-by-step plan like this is a good sign.
I’m really looking forward to seeing the timeline and how Trace, Walrus and Seal come together natively on Sui.
