A landmark moment in UK-France defence cooperation 🇬🇧 🇫🇷
For the first time, the UK has participated in a French nuclear air exercise, marking a significant step forward in coordination between Europe’s two nuclear powers

This week RAF Typhoons have flown alongside French Rafale jets - the first time the UK has taken part in a French nuclear air exercise. It's a landmark step in UK-France defence co-operation, and a clear signal that we stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies on European security and credible deterrence.

How should Britain prepare for being Russia’s leading adversary?

‘Britain has 225 nuclear warheads. In comparison, Russia and the US have more than 5,000 each.’ Er, @Reuters, it would be useful to provide context after such statements. The UK and France can still wreck Russia. More is not better if less is enough... reuters.com/business/aerospa…
Excellent news! More of this is needed... reuters.com/business/aerospa…
Agreed. Britain has allowed the Commonwealth to descend into a farce. I am not sure it can be saved, or is even worth saving...
It is time to admit that the Commonwealth does not only not serve its purpose, but works against its premise of post-imperial comity.
This is because it has become a little more than a poorly attended biannual summit whose only purpose seems to be to for Caribbean countries to lobby Britain for reparations. This does nothing but worsen these relationships.
My view was Botchwey was the last chance to try and pull the organisation back from this dead end but this had clearly failed. CHOGM is going ahead without any major reforms to its structure or meaningful agenda, resented by those in government involved in it as a result.
It is now only a matter of time before Prime Ministers stop attending our next King cuts the cord and eventually a new CANZUK-type summit or body is pursued.
In 2021 and 2022, the UK was ahead of any other large EU country in resisting Russia and supporting Ukraine. I think that’s still true today. Better to invest limited time and money into economic growth and military modernisation...

This is obvious nonsense. 1. There is no ‘NATO view’ of Russia’s war against Ukraine. 2. If other countries had not joined NATO, there would have been countless Russian wars – Russia also attacked Georgia, which was outside of NATO, in 2008.
Trump is correct is rejecting the Nato view of the Ukrainian war. I haven't said anything nice about him in a while, since 2/28. But without Nato expansion, there would have been no Ukraine war. Every serious American foreign policy analyst knew this. Settling the war would save lives, the Ukraine hawks simply want it continue, to no good end.
Er, @TLRailUK and @networkrail: the back of Platform 1 of Catford Station looks like a rubbish tip. It does not look like it’s been cleaned for years – an environmental disgrace! Please have it cleaned up... – at Lewisham, London
The Russians are certainly brazen. The Russian empire pillaged, looted, and burned swathes of territories. So did its Soviet successor – adding totalitarian terror to the mix. Modern Russia does the same today: it has killed and maimed thousands in Georgia, Syria, and Ukraine... – at Lewisham, London
☝️ The UK's vote against the draft resolution on addressing colonialism in the UNGA Fourth Committee speaks volumes.
After centuries of slavery and colonial exploitation, London refuses to acknowledge that such practices persist in new forms.

More thoughtful stuff from @ConGeostrategy
FWIW I'd suggest defences are also a deterrent, until the adversary perceives they pose less risk to them than they are prepared to run to get their objective; hence CASD.

Le Royaume Uni n'a jamais changé de position : que le Premier ministre soit travailliste ou conservateur, ce pays a toujours fermement soutenu l'Ukraine.
C'est le même pays qui a sauvé l'Europe en 1940.

Britain: a rising power? The IMF just released its latest economic data. The UK is set to overtake Japan next year in terms of GDP. The last time Britain’s economy was larger than Japan’s was in the 1960s. The UK is also gaining on Germany – it could easily be No. 4 by 2040...
Whether or not Russia ‘interfered’ in the Brexit referendum, or any other election, is neither here nor there. The real questions are: 1. Why did we allow them to get so inside our political and media ecosystems? 2. What are we now doing to push them out? bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c6jd…

UK–Estonia defence cooperation keeps delivering.
British troops at Tapa now have attack drones with a range of over 250 km, strengthening NATO’s long-range strike capability.
Stronger capabilities mean stronger deterrence and a more secure Alliance.
