We’re all wishing Helen Haines a speedy recovery. She is warm, committed, smart, respectful and one of the most effective champions of integrity in public life. She has already changed Parliament for the better more than anyone else.

Excellent news: good riddance. How the Hell was she still there anyway!?
An overlooked positive side effect of the Serbian parliamentary election today is that Ivica Dačić, the former spokesman of Slobodan Milošević’s Socialist Party of Serbia, appears to have been voted out of parliament, along with his party. One of the darkest figures in Serbian history is thus leaving the stage, hopefully for good.

I am in direct contact with my students and so many Afghan women, and the stories I hear from them are heartbreaking.
Please, I beg you, do not let the voices of Afghan women be silenced.
Please speak up for them louder and more boldly than ever before. Keep telling their stories. Keep the world listening. Do not let the world forget them.
For more than five years, Afghan women and girls have been systematically denied their fundamental rights, including access to education, and pushed out of public life. Yet their voices, dreams, and hopes have not disappeared.
Afghan women are not invisible. Their suffering must not become normal. Their silence must never be mistaken for consent.
Please help make the world hear them. They deserve freedom, education, dignity, and a future.
@jk_rowling, please stand with Afghan women. Please help amplify their voices. The world must not look away. 💔

Congratulations to @LulaOficial on this victory 🇧🇷
After the fall of the Afghan Republic, Brazil’s humanitarian visa pathway helped many Afghans, particularly women and girls at risk, find safety. This is one of the reasons I deeply respect President Lula and am grateful for this support.
I sincerely hope this pathway continues with a stronger, transparent, and accountable system. Unfortunately, humanitarian visas have reportedly been exploited for private profit by some organization and individuals, and with some people taking advantage of the suffering of Afghan women and girls.
Those genuinely at risk deserve protection, not exploitation. I hope the Brazilian government strengthens oversight, prevents abuse, and ensures that this pathway remains accessible to Afghan women and girls who urgently need safety and a chance to rebuild their lives.

🇷🇸 🚨 BREAKING: Serbia's Aleksandar Vučić has conceded defeat to the student-led movement that has spent nearly two years in the streets trying to oust him.
"Based on the sample, it is clear that we have lost these elections," Vučić said at his party's headquarters. He put the Student List at about 2.2 million votes to 1.72 million for his bloc. That works out to 130 to 140 of parliament's 250 seats, a clear majority. Official results are pending.
Vučić has ruled Serbia as prime minister or president since 2014. In that time his party took over state institutions, and he was accused of muzzling critical media. He resigned the presidency last month to run for prime minister.
The movement erupted in November 2024, after a newly renovated train station canopy collapsed in Novi Sad, Serbia's second-largest city, and killed 16 people. Students blamed corruption and rallied behind the cry "Pumpaj," Serbian for "pump it," meaning keep up the pressure.
