The events and scenarios described in Hibiscus Tea are fantasy fiction.
But I tried to write the poems in a way that matched the styling of poetry about love and loss and rediscovering joy. Because that’s what it’s all about.
It’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever written.
Bob the boson spun up to the arugula factory and looked inside. Was this vegetable a lettuce or was it not? Surely it couldn’t be both. Somewhere, a cat mewed sadly (or not).
. . .
Anyway, looking forward to what everyone comes up with for #MicrofictionMonday!
Where did Friday come from?

Prompts: fief, fife
“Slater, The Giant Slayer”
Rouge bled through the horizon across The Lemrynce Sea. Mist rumbled, gathering darkly beneath the sky. Charged currents flickered, beckoning the waters above, and the waves below.
On the shore of the fief, Slater shivered under his tunic. Lavender silk fluttered in the wind. Golden tassels swayed. He filled his torso with salt brine air, and exhaled, watching the surf steadily withdraw out to sea.
Slater pivoted, and faced a cavalcade preparing to march up the mountain.
The chief, wearing his ornate vassal robe and lily-woven crown, stood next to him.
“The Giant awakens!”
“I will sleep,” declared Slater.
“Slaters!” The chief addressed the men of the fief. “Serfs of the surf. Once again, earth and sky collide. The bleeding dawn calls forth The Giant of The Deep.”
The chief clasped Slater’s hand, and raised it, while both men chanted:
“Felix! Fideles! Fontis! Fumo!”
Acclamation thundered from every man in the fief: “Fee! Fi! Fo! Fum!”
Fifes chirruped, and drums resounded, ushering the men up the side of the mountain, until they reached the edge of the crater.
Slater walked past the men, and tumbled off the precipice. He reposed in the lava bed, and quelled the approaching Giant.
